Why we need to sign mini and lod for 2014

It was very clear from last night's game that we need Mini and LOD for 2014. Roger was ok but needs to be more proactive by chiming into the back line and backing up his forwards. LOD runs hard and add steel to the middle of the field, in defence. Napa and Evans will be great for us but need to be brought along by being given more game time and to cover for injuries. POSullivan get their signature for another year quick smart please.

RTS is a star and will make a great fullback. And I'm certainly not judging him on one performance.

But...

Fullback is a complex position and he needs time to develop. Meanwhile Mini is still our best option in the no. 1 Jersey.

But...

He's not going to develop as a fullback by playing another season on the wing. He hadn't played a full game at fullback all season and I think considering the circumstances of the game, in particular the fact we barely had any good attacking ball (when we did we scored straight away), he was pretty bloody solid. He'll have a full pre season training at fullback next year and will hit the ground. There is no way he should be kept out on the wing for another full season. Even Mini knows that. Roger was not the problem last night but people seem to think Mini would have starred in the same circumstances. Come next year Roger will be our fullback. I for one will be happy about this. Good for Mini, he has been excellent this year, nothing spectacular but bloody good still. But at the same time last year Mini's play other than his bomb defusing was utterly pathetic. He was letting grubbers roll past him and was totally out of position a lot of the time, and offered zilch in attack. He was that bad for about 8 games and people don't want Roger to get another chance for another year after a solid game with no crucial mistakes, and where he had zero opportunities to shine. Gotta be kidding.

Anyone who thought he would be an instant success at fullback was delusional. He had very little impact from the back, but that is due to not having combinations set yet.

the way he involves himself from the wing has been priceless this year.

Thought LOD was a dud buy at the beginning of the season but he definitely makes an impact and I'm becoming a huge fan. He and JWH are brutal.

As for Mini, well I love him. Rooster for life.

Umm, I agree with everything you said Yak.

But people have been calling for RTS to fullback this year which is premature imo.

Mini has been outstanding this year and our team is better with him at the back in 2013.

But in 2014 RTS' time will have come. Development can occur outside of a game. So in 6 months time with a full offseason at fb under his belt he will be ready.

But until then Mini is still the man.

Both players bring a lot of experience to the team. They are the oldest two players in our squad and it was evident that they lacked a little leadership last night. Will do the team a world of good having a tough game against Canberra. The Roosters' march continues along nicely.

If we win the comp this year it would be a brilliant way for Mini to finish.

If however he wants to go around again...probably as a flanker..that's ok.

As for LOD unless he proves himself one of our best during the big games I probably wouldn't resign him.

rts is a full back. but

he plays like a centre 10 meters out from the try line, shimmies, steps , jigs. what mini does is runs hard at the defence after defusing a bomb and takes a knees elbows tackle, for a quick play the ball. rts jigs and jags when there is no one around. towards the second half rts realized this and started to run harder. I feel safe with rts at the back , but would prefer mini as fb on gf day.
