  • best defensive year in the NRL

since the NRL was formed in 1998 the best defensive team is arguably the Melbourne storm, specially during their cheating years.

In 2007 Melbourne storm only conceded 277 points in 24 regular season games at an average of 11.5 points conceded a game the least of any year since the NRL was formed.

But I no some people wont count the years the Storm cheated, if you don't count the years than in 2010 the drag queens only conceded 299 points at an average of 12.4 points conceded a game.

Where im getting at is that for the roosters to concede the least points in a regular season year since the NRL was formed is concede less than 12.4 points in the last 5 games of the regular season to concede less than 277 or concede less than 16.8 points in the last 5 games of the regular season to concede less than 299 points.

The roosters play Raiders, Tigers, Sharks, Titans and Rabbitohs in their last 5 games of the year

I wanted to share this with you because a couple of my mates are passionate dragon supporters and they tell me all the time that dragons were the best defensive team in the modern era in 2010 so if we can concede less than 299 points this year ill be telling them that the roosters are a better defensive team than the dragons where in 2010.

didn't really know what the stats were, but I knew if we conceded less than 300 points we would be the best defensive team of the last few years. the best defensive teams generally go on to win the comp, and even though we may not know it, we do have plenty of finals experience in our squad. (minichiello, Jennings, SKD, Maloney, Pearce, JWH, Friend, SBW, Aubusson, FPN, LOD, Kennedy and Mortimer have all played in finals, series. most of them have even played in grand finals as well)

roosters have to concede less than 16 points a game to concede less than 299 points for the year

Storm 2007/2008/2011 were the best defensive team of the past 15 years. 277 points conceded in 2007, 282 points conceded in 2008, 308 points conceded in 2011.

Other than them, Dragons 2010 were extremely strong with 299 points conceded, and the 1999 Eels conceded only 294.

As said by the OP, we have conceded 215, with 5 games left in the season. The big question is whether we can not only win, but concede less than 62 points over the rest of the main season.

Just as an added note, out of those outstanding defensive teams, the best win/loss record was Storm 2007 (21-3).

                  Eels 1999 was 17-7 (finished 2nd after Sharks), Storm 2008 was 17-7, Dragons 2010 was 17-7 (finished 1st), Storm 2011 was 19-5 (finished 1st).

Realistically, if we lose no more than 1 of our last 5 games, and concede less than 67 points, we would comfortably be the second best defensive team behind Storm 2007.
