I'm a fan and REALLY wanted us to win. But... man, we were getting SMASHED in the last 20 of the first 1/2. Sorry but we were... betting on the Cows at that stage would have been a very sober bet.
You take a risk when you punt... if you tick "by 13 or more" you get double the money or something crazy... why not have a go?
... because not many punters would waste big money on a 13+ result, when they are getting a jicy H2H price. Especially on the Cows who had nothing to play for.
We are not talking about people who throw 20$ down as a fun bet. These are people who try to make money taking as little risk as possible.

Well there is an article where freddy breaks his silence about the whole scandal on the fox sports web site, but the link to the article is not working. in the blurb, fittler is calling the accusations "ridiculous" and "unfounded".

As if Freddy would have clue......half the team hardly spoke to the guy by halfway through the season due to the fractures in the joint - if anything the rubbish leadership led to this mess.
I don't believe the match was thrown, I do believe there were "benefits" for some if a certain result happened to occur though......if the result didn't go the way then it's no big deal as the money being placed on it wasn't huge anyways......that's how exotic stings work so no one can be proven guilty of shit.

The worst type of journalism is where they quote a mystery person but can't disclose it.
Rothfield and Wilson have been using that style for years and it has ****ed up their reputation. This year Magnay has gone down to their level with a couple of stories. It's called gutter journalism. This player she has quoted could be completely fabricated bullshit, could be a disgruntled player or could be a fair dinkum player having a lend of her gullibilty. If it ever happened, it would arguably be the worst news to rock the NRL since the Bulldogs salary cap rort yet the Roosters, NRL and police have not bothered investigating. That's good enough for me. Magnay has put this out there because she thought she could get a great story during grand final week but it seems to have fizzled out. If she doesn't go on with it now and disclose these names, she will finish up with egg on her face and be tarnished with the same no credibilty brush as Rothfield and Wilson.

this part from todays Telegraph
'As leading bookmakers yesterday cast doubts over the alleged sting,'
And this
'But TAB Sportsbet boss Craig Nugent said his agency would not be launching an investigation as allegations resurfaced yesterday.
"We suspended betting a few times because we were worried about so much money coming for the Cowboys,'' Nugent said. "We just checked to make sure the Roosters hadn't lost a few players to injury. The biggest bet we held was $7500, which isn't all that big in the scheme of things. We regularly hold $20,000 and $30,000 bets. At this stage we won't be investigating anything.''
Another leading bookmaker claimed there was no evidence to support claims of match fixing. "Was it a rort?'' said Eskander Betstar boss Allan Eskander.
"I would say probably not. Was there an unusual amount of money on the Cowboys to win by 13 plus? Yes. It pretty much happens every year when you get a side whose commitment is questionable.
"We didn't get burnt. I was happy to stay out of the game once I knew the Roosters players were all at the races on the Wednesday, surely their commitment had to be questioned if they were out at the races on the week of a game that could see them get off the bottom of the ladder.''
Roosters CEO Steve Noyce did not take calls from The Sunday Telegraph yesterday while NRL boss David Gallop refused to comment.'
SO IN OTHER WORDS... A PIECE OF SENSATIONALISM BULLSHIT!!!

The people involved were cery smart, no huge wagers, plenty of smaller wages to reduce suspicion, it was the perfect sting.
Unknown people placing reasonable sized bets on a football result is nothing new.
Questions should be asked as to why the bookies made the Roosters odds on favourites for the game in the 1st place?????
Surely our form didnt warrant that, yet every bookie had us odds on favs for the game.
It was also odd that whilst we were up 16-6, the cowboys were backed into odds on favs to win 13+.
Anyone at the game would have noticed how differant we played in the 2nd half, we were never in the game, then the 3 tries in the last 5 mins, of course it looks suspicious.
Way too many questions remain unanswered for my liking.
