I get the impression that teams do not believe they can beat us, yesterday was a prime example. When Newcastle took that penalty shot instead of maintaining pressure it was as good as saying we can't beat you guys. And lately we are being talked up as the Benchmark of the comp, I haven't heard us described like that since 2004. It seems the media have gone cold on souffs. I know we've lost to the Warriors recently but I feel we lost that rather than the Warriors winning it. We have a steely resolve which we didn't have in our last great era. I'd say this is the best Roosters side since 1975.

I actually want Inglis and their full strength team up against ours on that night.
The best case scenario is we put the Burgess brothers on their arse and completely shut Inglis out..
If we manage that your first sentence would be more than correct!

I don't care where we finish, as long as we play manly in the first week of the finals. They are the team I think we are most likely to beat. It's still anyone's guess as to who finishes where, even the bulldogs are a chance to sneak in with Melbourne struggling of late.

We're a bit worse off in the halves because we don't have a fittler type player but we have strike power everywhere else. I can't remember us having centres/wingers this fast.

The win against Newcastle was hardly convincing. We should really be putting clubs like that away a lot earlier that what we did. Newcastle are full on pensioners and our current team should have thrashed them.
Way too early to compare to 1975 team. I would rate the 2002-2004 team better due to the fact they played 3 consecutive GFs. Only time will tell as to whether our current side is better. A lot of our success was due to key players in key positions (1. Minichello, 6. Fittler, 9. Wing), and our current team has potentially that same strong backbone (1. RTS, 6. Maloney, 7. Pearce, 9. Friend).

We haven't achieved anything yet!
A lot of friends love saying "shut up, you know you'll win!!" But to be honest during the Knights game I didn't assume we'd won until the game was over.
That said I believe we've gained a lot of respect. When people play us, they know they generally assume it will be a tough game whereas in the past we were often weaker than a bye round.
Lots of teams could beat us on the day and we've had a bit of good luck. So what?
I'd still rate Melbourne and Souths over us. They have established teams with experience playing together. Our inexperience and poor execution have let us down in some games (even ones we have won) this year...
---
In terms of being our best team ever... I think the current boys would beat any previous teams (even 2002) given that skills, and tactics have improved significantly. The boys are also a lot fitter due to modern technology and training techniques.
Given this I think the only fair indicator is to compare us to the competition that exists. 2002 we won a premiership... enough said. They were the better team unless these boys can win one!
If we win a premiership by shutting out a cheating Souffs/Storm outfit who get an unfair penalty advantage (including some 2010 Nightingale-esque moments) then I'll start talking best team ever...Last edited by ism22; 07-30-2013, 02:17 PM.
