Melbourne are no shoe ins for 3rd spot In case you have not noticced should Manly win tonight then they will go to 3rd on for and against

What I meant by "the basic idea behind my point" was that I couldn't give two shits about the minor premiership, not having to play Melbourne would be a greater reward.

They are a big game team with big game players who will lift for a finals game, and they have done a number on us this year.

We lift against Manly and have had them covered comfortably so far this season.

As such, I would take 2nd place if it meant playing Manly instead of Melbourne.

As it stands, the biggest real advantages of the minor premiership would be:

1. Not having to play Melbourne in week 1

2. Daylight

3. Psychological gain in knowing we can beat Souffs (presuming we get the MP by beating them come round 26)

Because I was assuming Melbourne would almost certainly finish third, and thus that coming first meant avoiding Melbourne, I said that the biggest reward for winning the minor premiership would be avoiding playing the Storm, not the money or finishing above Souffs.

Now that you've informed me that winning the minor premiership and avoiding Melbourne may not be the same thing, I maintain the basic idea behind my initial post - that not having to play Melbourne is a bigger advantage than beating Souffs. If Manly come 3rd, while I'd love to see us pip Souffs, I'll be just as happy with second + avoiding Melbourne as I would with finishing first but playing the Storm week one of the finals.
