I doubt it's in PearceOrf to learn the art of the grubber into the in goal at this point of the season or his career. It's just not his go, or Baloneys or Morteins to be fair, hence the coach using different tactics to suit his 1/2s.

I like the way we are playing in the oppositions 20 this season personally. And I've been one whose called for someone, anyone, to roll one in and earn the ball back.

I believe what we have been doing, gameplan or tactic wise, has worked thus far, hence our position on the ladder. I also don't believe the coach is gonna drastically overhaul our gameplan before the semis. That would be madness IMO.

Sure continual improvement is what's required. But why try to fix what isn't broke???

The anomaly that started all this was when we played The Bros. we earned more repeats than I've seen in a game in the last 4-5 years I reckon, but we still lost. I still can't find anyone to explain that bizarre result.

I don't think it is beyond Pearce to work on that part of his game (gaining repeat sets through grubbers in goal or pin point bombs) and get it right in time for the finals in a few months. I have been very impressed with him this year, and this seems to be the only real part of his game that he is lacking in, and the problem for him is that this one thing could cost him a kangaroos jumper! I have no doubt at all that if he can fix this issue then he can be second only to Cronk in the halfback pecking order for Australia, leap frogging DCE and play in the world cup at the end of the year. Gaining repeat sets is seen as very highly, which is why so many ex players in the media are creaming their duds for reynolds from $ouff$ to come into the NSW side.

Your right Stsae, we shouldn't leave Maloney out of this as it is part of his job description to also gain repeat sets.

Don't get me wrong mate, I am loving the way we are going and the fact that we are sitting in second spot. This year when we do get our opportunities inside the opposition 20m, we are throwing plenty more at them then the last few years, culminating in more tries scored which is great. But there have been too many times when we bring a good set of six undone by a poorly executed kick at the end of it, then it makes that set a waste and lets the opposition off the hook. This sort of thing you can't afford in finals games against the storm and $ouff$.

I hope people don't get the impression that I and others only want us once we are on the attack inside the opposition 20m, to play it safe by only doing one out hit ups and just work for a repeat set at the end of it and then do the whole process over exactly the same. I want us to throw everything including the kitchen sink at the opposition when we are inside the opposition 20m, and then if we haven't scored a try I just want us to either on the last or second last tackle cap off that good set by regaining another.

By not taking the foot off our opponents throat, you can see it wearing them down, taking energy away from them and giving them less to attack back at us with. Just think about it, these days there is an enforced amount of time for a team to take the line drop out, so there is less time wasting for them to regain their breath making it even more effective. Then they have to all sprint on average about 35m after the kick, make more tackles and race back 10m for the next 3 or so tackles, which when repeated a few times tends to take its toll! It not only physically but also mentally wears a team down. We get to control the game, and it also takes control away from the refs. How many times have we seen a poor kick on the end of our set inside the opposition's half and then the ref can't wait to piggy back them back out of their half.

There seems to be this misconception that gaining repeat sets is not part of our game plan, which is false. If it wasn't part of our game plan then we wouldn't ever attempt doing them, but we do, it is just that we poorly execute them. Robbo sees the value in them which is why he gets Pearce and Maloney to attempt them in games, it is part of every good teams tactics. If Robbo didn't see the value in them then he would instruct Pearce and Maloney to run it on the last everytime, but that rarely ever happens. This part of our game is broken and does need fixing, but it isn't a drastic overhaul for our team, it is just something that needs fine tuning with Pearce, Maloney along with Friend and Morts. I have faith in Robbo to get this sorted out amongst the boys in time for the finals.

I wouldn't look to much into that warriors result. We got them at a bad time during their hot streak of form and they got us at a good time. Had we played them before the origin disruption and with JWH in the side then we would have beaten them. Scoring some lucky tries also helped their cause a lot. Ever since the warriors were flogged by the pamfers they have been a changed team.

Love mass debating with you mate, always a pleasure!!

        Good post mate.

My only thing is while I understand and agree with the repeat set theory I still see it as low down on our options list generally when attacking. Some teams build their game on the repeat set, we don't seem to.

Our 1/2s appear to be coached to play that way currently and whatever's in the game plan it's working.

While PearceOrf has improved his kicking game the grubbers never been his strong point. Hopefully he improves in that aspect.

Of more concern IMO is his ability to nail a game under extreme pressure. Hopefully tonight he gets the monkey off his back. It can only benefit Easts.

Your right Stsae about how some teams build their game on the repeat set. You could say that the dragqueens fall into that trap this year as they have been really weak in the halves. They throw SFA at the opposition during their set, as they have no other ideas and just work for the grubber into the in goal at the end. The key for us is to make sure that we throw plenty at the opposition, with the intent of trying to score off just about every play when we are attacking the tryline. Gaining a repeat set is the icing on the cake if we don't manage to score a try in that set.

As you mention, let's have our fingers crossed that Pearce can shut up all his critics with a starring performance tonight, as it can only benefit us! I want to see Pearce end up becoming the most capped NSW player of all time, and reynolds can just waste away at $ouff$ for the rest of his career!

Excellent viewing. Lisa Wilkinson had all the one liners/comebacks.

I've seen dummy spits before and this one is right up there.

Lisa did do rather well, "Stick that up you Karlos" was funny $hit! If NSW wins it will be interesting to see if he turns up for work tomorrow.

Typical queenslander! With an effort like that Karlos could never be a Roosters supporter! You would think that he would be a $ouff$ or bull$hitdogscum supporter with the traits that he displays!
