  • Pearce, post-origin.

Look - there's a significant chance that Qld will take out the series on Wednesday, and I've been noticing a few sound bites across the media whereby Mitch talks about this being his swansong should the Blues lose. Yup - the incessant negativity over Pearce's supposed 'overratedness' seems to have permeated his essence, IMO.

Now I personally highly rate the kid, and don't for a second believe him to be overrated. He's one of the top players in the game without a doubt, but I'm beginning to wonder about how he's holding it together at the moment, and how this final game (as he's perceiving it) will impact East's charge to the title in 2013.

    What thinketh thee, Chookpen acolytes?

I thought after the second Origin that he might drop off a bit, but he played well against Manly.
I was out at work for the Dragons game and missed it live, but I was lucky enough to catch a replay when I finished shift yesterday and Pearce had a wonderful game. His TA with the kick that landed perfectly. The little show and then step to put Guerra over. His pass to put Cordner over. He showed a full array of tricks and like the Manly game, didn't look like the Origin loss had affected his confidence at all.
I honestly don't believe an Origin series loss will affect his performance for the Club. We are onto something this season and have a very bright light at the end of the 2013 tunnel.

I agree with you, but I s'pose Mitch had Origin 3 to play when he bounced-back after Origin 2. I imagine he felt included and full of purpose. I hope I'm wrong, but i get the sense that Origin is his raison d'etre and as such I worry...

To blame Pearce for SOO2 is very narrow minded.
Our forwards failed to dominate & therefore give the halves the chance they needed.

I think that whatever happens in Origin III, Pearce will draw his energy and confidence for the rest of the season from the rest of the team. We have strength across the park and some amazing leaders in this squad.

Pearce and the Chooks will be fine.

....and as far as I'm concerned, let Adam Reynolds wear the seven for NSW and get the mercilessly hounded like every other NSW half since JOhns.

While Origin is important, we're 2nd on the ladder and a GF if more important than origin.

The final game is a coin toss. Must s*ck for Pearce because everybody digs deep for Origin but QLD has a significantly better roster.

On the flip side, what if we win by a big margin? Will QLD (and a bunch of Storm players) be let down? Also, will the likes of Pearce be bumped into the green and gold jerseys? Gronk can go IMO if we want to win a world cup.

The talk of uncertainty about green and gold jerseys could lift the likes of Pearce. While he's not yet in contention, I'd say that a big Origin win, a strong run in the finals + a premiership could turn the tables significantly. The speculation in the lead-up might lift him too.

I do hope the fate of Origin doesn't rest on Pearce's shoulders.

Why PIM? You don't follow Origin and by your own admission you don't watch it.

                  He's just being realistic

In terms of his rep career, this game couldn't be any bigger, and he's 100% right to think that his origin career is over if the blues lose. What will he be if they lose, 3 from 11?

In my view he's just not quite up to Origin class, but in saying that the Blues are a reasonabhle chance of winning game 3 and if they do he probably buys himself another series

As for his club performance, that can only improve by him playing Origin

He was in exactly the same position last year. If NSW didn't win he'd be a very good chance of being black listed.

Yet he was easily our best player in the back half of the season after NSW lost game 3.

Just a general comment on his position rather than an origin specific comment.

lol....you dont play first grade without learning how to switch off from things and move on from failure....these blokes use failure as motivation..that never dies...losing will make him more determined to salvage what he can from any other chanceshe gets, meaning he will be solely focused on that premiership..and maloney cant grow in confidence anymore, the prick has it coming out every orifice..we are set, we have the team to win it this year, we are a massive chance, much better than 2010....im fukken pumped

I'd be happy for Pearce (or any other Rooster) to become like Jamie Lyon and shun the rep footy while carving it up at club level.

Although I get some joy out of NSW wins (though few and far between), watching our beloved Roosters win gives me FAAARRRR more joy.
