  • More Roosters Penalty Trivia

In the period 2005 to 2013:
    • The Roosters are the only team never to have finished a season having received more penalties than we have conceded. Most teams go up and down the ranks, but the Roosters have not done so in this period.
    • The most virtuous teams (i.e. maintaining excellent "discipline" regardless of how embarrassingly poor they are playing) are Souths and Cronulla. They have only had a negative differential once.
    • Apart from the Roosters, the most villainous teams have been Canterbury, New Zealand, Gold Coast and Penrith. However, each of these teams has had positive differential twice in the period.
    • In terms of the total penalty handicap that the Roosters have had in the period, we have a net negative of MINUS 234 penalties. The next most penalised team is Canterbury with MINUS 146.
    • Compared with the super disciplined Cronulla (just look at that trophy cabinet to see how good they are), there is a 447 penalty difference between the Roosters and the Sharks. (Expressed in terms of free field position, that's about a 13 kilometre advantage. Converting that advantage to hit ups, that's 1625 free hit ups to the peptide poissons from The Shire).
    • At the current rate, this year's Roosters are on track to become the most ill-disciplined team in NRL history. Well, that's obvious isn't it? We are a disorganised rabble, aren't we?

    Aren't we?

Any theories on why this is so? And, what can be done about it? Discuss.

        LOL@ 13 km!!!

But maybe being a shark does make you virtuous?

After all Todd Carney was in the Telegraph almost every day for all the wrong reasons when he was a raider then a rooster.

You just don't read those stories at all now he's a shark.

I hear on non training days he delivers meals on wheels for the old folk of the shire. Stephen Dank prepares the meals and I have heard over 70 % of the elderly recipients have bulked up by 25 kg and have guns on them like you wouldn't believe.

I don't think there is a conspiracy behind this. BUT I do believe when the refs are out there they have a social attitude that could be tall poppy syndrome. Eastern Suburbs- wealthy-good looking- cafe late. So it could be a sense of social revenge of inadequacy. You can tell when they are barking out there appear to be more aggressive with our players.
Also I'd like to see the stats from 1999-2004

I don't think it's a conspiracy, I actually believe it's an unintentional thing brought on by a dislike for certain clubs.

Lets face it, if you aren't a chook supporter you're a chook hater. We don't tend to have opposition supporters having a 'soft spot' for us like lol@souffs does for instance. It's no coincidence that the dogs are on that list too because they're probably in the same shitty boat.

Put it this way, when you're watching a lol@souffs game and there is a 50/50 call, who do you end up siding with?

            Think about it...

But Greedy, the supporters aren't reffing the games. Is it a case of the crowd's influencing the refs?...maybe. What about when we played other hated sides...we still consistently lose the count.

I think it's more to do with the refs having preconceived notions (tip sheets anyone?). I can't remember the last time we won a penalty count handsomely. Statistically that bucks the trend. Things should even out after a while...it just hasn't happened though which does suggests other factors at play and let's face it the refs are the ones in control.

bang on the money. these referees are human after all. they all grew up supporting a club.
the roosters and the sea eagles are the two most penalised teams this year. is it really a surprise seeing as everyone hated easts and manly when they grew up?
                personal grudges? yes. corruption? no.

Over that period, Manly have a 232 penalty advantage over the Roosters. If we are Ivan Milat in the everyone's eyes, Manly are Nelson Mandella in comparison.

Could I also point out if any referees is acting out his personal grudges on the field, then that by definition WOULD BE corruption.

I have two words for you.

                    Super League.

                    I have another seven.

Nick Politis, Brad Fittler and Phil Gould.

More than Manly, if we had folded and joined with St George like Super League wanted then the ARL would have been subsumed by the Super League. It was Brad Fittler and Phil Gould saving the Roosters that saved the ARL. And the Super league trained referees will never forgive or forget that.
                    SUPER DRAGON!

Refs are human and like everyone else and form preconcieved ideas on what they hear and read.

We ought to whinge more about whats going - the less we say the more they stick it up us.

Brad Fittler wasn't with us. It was Nick Politis and Phil Gould staying loyal with the ARL that thwarted Super League's grand plan. Had us or the Knights jumped ship, it would have been curtains for the ARL

I've got a few stats from this season. No surprises really - we're still being screwed.

We've jointly conceded the most penalties of all teams in the comp with 125, level with Wests. The next worst offenders are Manly on 111 but they still have to play tonight. Can't see them overtaking us though.

We've received the second least penalties with 92. Warriors have only received 86. Our for and against is -35 which is the worst, and 10 worse off than the next team (Warriors -25).

The Sharks have only lost one penalty count this season, to Melbourne. They've drawn 3 times and won all the others. Not surprisingly, they've got the best for and against with +28.

Working on the theory that the dominant team should receive the most penalties, how come the Sharks are so obviously getting a leg up? They're not exactly setting it on fire this season.

Taking a snapshot of the 4 games where we've held teams to nil, which is as dominant as it gets: Score on he field was an aggregate of 132 - 0 but an aggregate penalty count was -4.

I can cop the penalties against us, as we've got a couple of serial offenders....but why do we never receive many.

I never been a fan of the conspiracy theory until the last couple of weeks. JWH was smacked in the chops and we only got a penalty after a video review, and on Saturday, Sam Moa was dropped on his head - waved play on.

I can't believe that Robert Finch, Bill Harrigan and now Daniel Anderson all have a grudge against us.....so the finger has to be pointed at the idiots in pink.

It's getting ridiculous and it's time something was done.

                            Robert Finch --> DaFunchy

                            Daniel Anderson --> 2002 GF

Bill Harrigan --> I've actually always thought he's liked us ever since that 8 or 9-2 penalty count in the 02 Prelim vs the Ponies; coincidentally the last time we won a penalty count by a lopsided margin!

Can you imagine if JWH was the perpetrator of these two incidents?

Something is going on that's for sure. Whether or not it's blatant cheating is up for debate, but SOMETHING is taking place.

And as ive said, GOD HELP US if we face Souths in a Prelim or GF. Our only hope is if we don't meet them.
