  • Jake Friend: Next hooker for QLD?

    A FRIEND IN NEED
Queensland have a ready-made replacement for champion hooker and captain Cameron Smith. The Roosters’ Jake Friend has been in sensational form for the club this year and will be ready for Origin – and probably Test football – whenever the Kangaroos skipper decides to call it a day.

definitely. his form has shown what he is capable of.
if smith was to go down injured tomorrow, I think it would be ballin called in to replace him. but seeing as he turns 30 next year (and smith is 30 this year) they'll probably go with friend when smith begins to come back down in 2 or 3 years. (jake will be mid 20's by that stage.
the only other hooker I can think of is mccoullough and he aint that good.

James Segeyaro is going alright - he is originally from PNG, but that would be close enough to QLD to get a call up. That said, I think Jake has him covered.

segeyaro cam across my mind, firstly I wasn't even bothered to look up where he came from , but secondly I don't think he fits the queensland hooker mould. They pick 80 minute hookers such as smith and ballin, and they rarely ever choose a utility on the bench, which is what I think segeyaro is specialised in.

Should Jake Friend be the next QLD and Australian hooker?

I'll let Daniel Bryan answer for me.

Matt Srama is the other one from Qld who could be a long term origin prospect

He's not eligible to play SOO yet because he played for the Philippines last year (2012).

Jake would be the QLD hooker if not for this point in history with Cameron Smith. Not unlike what happened to Kevin Hastings and his rep career luckily for Jake there is not so much traqffic in front of him. Keep going hard Jake your time will come.

Has Smith ever been injured? Otherwise Friend and anyone else has a long time waiting for a chance.
