Hope this is true. SBW has been incredible for us this year. I hate to speculate but SBW dropped Quade Coopers name again in an interview after Manly/Chooks game.... wonder if he would try to include a deal for QC to entice him to stay?

No chance. I don't for a second believe that SBW is the type to hold the club to ransom in such a manner.

There's no spot for Quade in our team whatsoever. Unless he wanted to come for 300-400k a year and play centre!

found it interesting how quickly SBW came out to deny signing on with us, if he was going to re-sign why bother come out and deny it so quickly.

the fact we haven't come out and been active in the player market for 2014 is a fairly good indication that SBW will be staying, might be a simple case of awaiting the review into the salary cap and being told he is allowed to box/play rugby in the offseason and it will not affect our salary cap position.

Freddy pretty much said it last week that whatever happens SBW will only be here for a maximum of 2yrs, he has other challenges he wants to turn his attention to and I get the feeling the toll the NRL is having on his body is greater than he expected before he returned.

                the media is hopeless.

This is the second time, atleast I can recall anyway, that they written articles with information taken from here.

First it was the James Tamou to the Roosters rumour, which was deliberately planted by a 'pen member, knowing it was completely false, yet the Telucrap still ran with it. Tamou came out a few days later and said he laughed at the speculation saying he had nothing to do with us.

Now it's the SBW saga. A few people on here say that he is here to stay, and the Telucrap once again come out and write a story on how he has all but signed, $1 mil etc etc.

                What a joke.

If true, the club now has to work on keeping him long term..

I'd offer him the captaincy if he lets us know he's here for the long haul..

Let him fight "the bum of the month" & play dwarf yawnion in Japan too..

                  He is that good..

It is not just the World Cup that SBW wants to play but he also wants to win an Olympic Gold medal in Rio in 2016 playing 7's and to do that has to be playing Rugby. Next year will definitely be his final year at the Roosters.

I wouldn't let him play in Japan.

What if he does an ACL or Achilles injury?

Then we have 1m sitting on the sidelines on short notice. Id rather he makes a decision within the next month; giving us the opportunity to make alternative plans if he doesn't re-sign.

I wouldn't say next year is definitely his last year with us.

At this stage he certainly might think that way, but a lot can change within a year.

Bonds grow and weaken. And maybe he'll see himself as a Rooster for life by this time next year. Unlikely, but not impossible.

If the club doesn't try whatever it takes to keep him long term, then it's incompetence on their behalf..

If they resign themselves to the fact that he'll definitely go,then that's what'll happen..

If you say you can do something..or say you can't do something..you are right..

Sonny wont sign until after he's done a boxing or Japanese Rugby stint, so maybe January will be when he signs to avoid the extra stuff in the cap we'd have to pay.

the club has just released an official statement of the SBW situation

"As much as we would like to confirm reports that Sonny Bill Williams has agreed to terms with the club for 2014, that is not the case as yet.

Sonny has had a huge impact on not only on our club but the game of rugby league and we will work towards ensuring that we continue to see Sonny representing the Roosters beyond 2013.

Discussions regarding Sonny’s future are not likely to occur until later this year and our loyal Members and supporters will be the first to know when there is an update."

I wonder if they have released this statement because they know SBW will either be boxing/Japanese rugby in the offseason and didn't want the salary cap hassles, and will announce the signed deal in January/February.
