  • a worrying interesting stat

Heard whilst watching SOOII that between Maloney and pearce they managed to get us only 16 drop outs so far this year, the lowest in the comp!

This was highlighted as the commentators were being very critical of the NSW kicking game, and note it was Farrah's kicks that got us the drop out and the try.

    It was 12 I think

Simple explanation really, every time we get into the oppositions 20m zone, we usually end up scoring in first set of six or get a repeat set from a failed defused bomb

Yep it was 12 repeat sets for the season

And one of them was from SKD last week

We need some different last play options besides the put the bomb up for the winger

thanks Rusty I'm always on the forum reading the different posts, and I find that we have a good bunch of posters who offer great insight of the game, and I tend to disregard the posts of the few idiots that come and go with regularity.

That's quite an optimistic view of it...... the realistic view is our halves aren't capable or for some reason refuse to go looking for repeat sets.

The simple explanation is this - we are impatient and keep going for trys on every single kick play

I live in hope (ala Baldrick The Brave) that it is a cunning plan.
Other teams think they have our total game plan sorted....only to get to the finals to find that we do indeed have a fantastic kicking game from our halves that produce try after try.

We are the 2nd highest point scorers in the comp, equal 1st in linebreaks and from memory have the best conversion rate of turning possession inside the opposition 20 into tries.

A deceptive stat from Gus, when put in context it's irrelevant as we just score points instead.

I prefer running the ball , we have plenty of strike power

which is not particularly true. There are a plethora of situations where we have gone for a cross field kick and have not converted it to points. We can score even more trys if we do away with that and go for repeat sets, which give us more opportunities with the ball in hand. That is where we are most dangerous

I am interested to see how the stats are, in terms of us scoring trys from kicks (of the cross field variety). If it is poor we should indeed reduce the high kicks and go towards the ground.

Daniel Tupou has been quite poor in the air, and yet we persist to his side

I've sat screaming at the Teev for us to use the grubber for a repeat set too mate.

But I also find it ironic the most repeat sets we have gained, in years it would seem, was against the Bros a few weeks ago, when we lost.

If we were struggling to score points the repeat set cliche would matter more, but as it stands as Elo said, we are basically leading the comp in most attacking stats.

Is it really such a big deal considering how we are travelling???

It will be a big deal in a Prelim or GF.

There will only be a play here or there between us and the Storm/Rabbits in the big matches.
