  • NSW Cup - potential signings?

Not insisting that we need to sign anyone ASAP, but always interesting to see which former/fringe first graders are lingering in NSW Cup at the moment...

Knights - Timana Tahu, Peter Matautia
Cutters - Daniel Vidot, Bronx Goodwin, Jarryd Hickey, Atalea Vea, Will Matthews
Roos - Etu Uaisele, Junior Tia Kilifi
Sharks - Matthew Wright, Stewart Mills, Bryce Gibbs (returning from injury, I'm sure), Dayne Weston, Junior Moors, Mark Taufua, Siosaia Vave, Nathan Stapleton
Mounties - Michael Bani, Sam Williams, Sam Mataora, Shaun Berrigan, Shane Shackleton, Joe Picker, Jake Foster, Mark Nicholls
Bulldogs - Drury Low, Kris Keating, John Kite, Tim Lafai, Nathan Massey
Sea Eagles - Ben Farrar, Esi Tonga
Tigers - Eddie Paea (LOL!), Matt Groat, Shaun Spence
Vulcan - Bill Tupou, Jerome Ropati, Carlos Tuimavave, Pita Godinet, Seb Ikhihahifo
Bears - Luke Burgess, Jason Clark, Shaun Corrigan, Dylan Farrell
Wolves - Brad Tighe, Geoff Daniella, Luke Capewell, Jeremy Latimore, Nathan Smith

...not to mention the fact that in many teams, like Panthers and Tigers, have had horrific injury tolls and as such, lots of their fringe guys are playing FG right now.

Both Brian Smith and Trent Robinson have shown the ability to sniff out bargain buys and turn seemingly average players into overachievers.

Wow what a bunch of stinkers, probably a reason they are not in the NRL as they are pretty much all crap.

The only one of that lot I would consider is Carlos Tuimavave.

To be fair, you could have thrown Daniel Conn, Daniel Mortimer, Sam Moa, and the 'past it' version of Luke O'Donnell in there too, and you would have probably said the same thing.

It is about evaluating your team needs.

Manly & Melbourne have absolutely dominated in the last few years largely thanks to picking up unwanted reserve grade players.

Look no further than Brenton Lawrence, when you're talking about return on investment signings for 2013 he'd have to be right near the top of the list. A 28 year old who most people had no idea of at the beginning of the season.

          Of that list I think the following are all first grade standard;

Peter Mata'utia - Could be a good signing for us, great finishing winger. Would be good for depth at worst.
Daniel Vidot - Very good winger, stuck behind Nightingale & Morris so just unlucky more than anything else. Could easily make a lot of sides, probably not ours atm though.
Dayne Weston - Very good value as a bench prop, wasn't surprised at all when Bellamy picked him up mid-season he's just such a smart recruiter.
Sam Williams - Is obviously in demand from a few sides, very talented.
Joe Picker - Very good second rower, sort of fallen out of favour with Furner which I don't really understand but there's rumours Melbourne will pick him up, again Bellamy just too smart imo.
Tim Lafai - Not sure why he's still in reserve grade, he's a superior centre to Inu who much like our Skidsy is just a huge liability in everything he does.
Geoff Daniela - Never really been given a good run by a club but potentially I reckon he could be a really good centre.

I definitely think we need some outside back depth so Lafai, Daniela & Mata'utia would all be good signings imo. If we do end up releasing SKD but stuck contributing a lot of his salary some inexpensive options like Daniela & Lafai along with Moga all fighting for the spot would be the way to go imo.

Those blokes are all crap - Vidot cant catch, daneila and mata'utia are overhyped juniors and the rest play positions we dont need/we already have blokes better. Young Tuimavave given his versatility (and contract status - pretty sure he is off this year), Stewart Mills and Nathan Gardiner (also both off contract this year) are the only ones that come to mind. Gardiner could be a good one if mini retires at least as depth and Mills could come the other way if SKD does end up at cronulla. He is really good imo. Has had a few injuries which have stunted his progress but can play wing and centre, young, lightning quick and a great finisher.

Those three plus Jack Wighton and another back-up hooker - seluini just doesnt cut it imo and we will be strong

FMD that's one ugly list of players. Eddie Paea gone but not forgotten hehe .

Who would I pick from that list, probably no one. I don't think any of those players would make our starting 17 or even within our 20 best players. I don't know why people keep saying we need font row depth when we have Liu who is better than any of those players imho, playing for reggies. We also have the undertaker, and Napa.

There are some possible diamonds in the rough. Stewart Mills had plenty of good signs a couple of years ago, but throgh injury he hasn't cemented a spot. Joe Picker is one tough backrower who could maybe fill in a bench spot if we piss off FPN. Matt Groat from the tigpies is a tough young front rower who could be a valuable depth signing, but again we have enough front rowers on our books imo.
                Comment of the year:

Andrew Johns, Semi-Final vs North Queensland ,

"It's touched Lui's hand and travelled forward but that's not a knock on"

He also left out 2010 premiership winning origin footballer, Sowie.

There's no doubt about it....when Sowie spits the dummy he does it properly. Now he has to travel half way round the globe to collect it ready for the next go.

Hahaha gold. Gee we've had some beauties come through our club who are able of spitting the occasional dummy.

Gus has fked up the riff in ways which he can't even begin to describe. I'd seriously rate luke walsh ahead of sowie(who is on a big money contract) any day. Walsh is actually a good player and has a decent kicking game.

Agreed...to the point that it looks very much like we have one of ours behind enemy lines

Trust me mate, if he was helping us out in anyway then we'd know by now because he will have notified the world of his achievements. He is a believer in Narcissism and thinks he knows everything when in fact he has destroyed many teams in the past according to many people in rugby league. I can't stand his gibbering on tv particularly towards origin time. The only reason why I tolerate him on tv is because turnip face hates him, and turnip face hates us.

Enemy multiplied by an enemy = friend , because enemy = negative friend . Some mathematical sh1t like that.
