  • The chequered path of Mr Myles...

Myles will be turning 25 next year, and is yet to really play a full season with us due to suspension and off field incidents. I very much hope that he can get out of this habit of ill-discipline on and off the field, and lead our pack into the new decade.

    In 2007:

Round 1 to Round 5 - played for Roosters

    Round 6 - BYE

Round 7 to Round 9 - served suspension (3 weeks, striking charge, Rd 5 v Raiders)

    Round 10 - Origin commitments, SOO1

Round 11 to Round 12 - served suspension (2 weeks, dangerous throw, Rd 10 v NSW)

    Round 13 - Origin commitments, SOO2

Round 14 - played for Roosters

Round 15 - stood down (club policy breach - 1 week)

    Round 16 - Origin commitments, SOO3

Round 17 to Round 25 - played for Roosters

    ---

    In 2008:

Round 1 to Round 7 - played for Roosters

    Round 8 - BYE

Round 9 - played for Roosters

    Round 10 - Origin commitments, SOO1

Round 11 to Round 12 - played for Roosters

    Round 13 - Origin commitments, SOO2

Round 14 to Round 15 - played for Roosters

    Round 16 - Origin commitments, SOO3

    Round 17 - BYE

Round 18 to Round 23 - served suspension (6 weeks, lifting tackle, Rd 16 v NSW)

Round 24 to Round 28 - played for Roosters

    ---

    And now in 2009:

Round 1 to Round 3 - played for Roosters

Round 4 - stood down (club policy breach - 1 week)

Round 5 to Round 11 - played for Roosters

Round 12 - BYE (overlapped with Origin commitments, SOO1)

Round 13 to Round 14 - played for Roosters

    Round 15 - Origin commitments, SOO2

Round 16 to Round 17 - played for Roosters

Round 18 (BYE) to Round 23 - stood down (club policy breach - 6 weeks including BYE)

Round 24 to Round 26 - played for Roosters

    ---

The suspensions, I am not too frustrated about, in particular the Origin ones, where he tends to get caught in the heat of the moment. The striking one in 2007 in particular was pretty stupid, but I can live with it.

However, those suspensions for club policy breach are inexcusable. Two times (Round 15 2007, Round 4 2009) he has arrived at training late and has broken the clubs no-alcohol policy - terrible standard setting considering he was already in trouble for drink-driving in the pre-season. But the most recent one cost us 5 weeks of his match service. In a season where we needed all hands on deck to at least help steer us away from the demoralizing spoon that we have now been duly served, he threw away more then a months worth of games because he drank too much and couldn't find the dunny.

Please Nate, we need you to lead the forwards into the new decade, to show a hard-edged but DISCIPLINED approach to the game. Mongrel on the field is all good, but don't act stupid off it.

It would be ideal if this post could find its way into Myles' hands just to make him aware of the pattern. Morley was a bit like Myles in this respect though so is their a double standard here?

Whilst Morley had more than his fair share of suspensions, I don't recall him ever being punished for breaking Club protocol.

Mind you, that was probably more good luck than good management.

Like Mack, the real problem for me regarding Myles is the off field indiscretions, rather than the on field ones. And each one is alcohol related.

        In 2001, Morley missed:

        Round 6 (injury - 1 week)
Round 10-11 (high tackle charge - 2 week suspension)
        Round 18-22 (injury - 5 weeks)

        In 2002, Morley missed:

Round 3 (high tackle charge - 1 week suspension)
        Round 5-6 (injury - 2 weeks)
        Round 11-19 (injury - 9 weeks)
Round 22 (tripping charge - 1 week suspension)

        In 2003, Morley missed:

Round 16 (high tackle charge - 1 week suspension)
Round 22-24 (high tackle charge - 3 week suspension)

        In 2004, Morley missed:

Round 5 (high tackle charge - 1 week suspension)
Round 12-13, 15 (high tackle charge, 3 week suspension [Rd14 is BYE] )
Round 20-21 (high tackle charge - 2 week suspension)
        Round 24 (injury - 1 week)

        In 2005, Morley missed:

Round 17-19 (knee lifting charge - 3 week suspension)

        In 2006, Morley missed:

Round 2-3 (high tackle charge, 2 week suspension)
Round 21-26 (knee lifting charge, 6 week suspension)

        ---

NC is right. Most of Morley's absences have been either from injury, or suspension. Myles has missed 7 for incidents off the field, that is 7 too many.

In his 3 years with us, there was a total of 74 games that Myles could have played for us:

He has missed 7 games due the State Of Origin selection.

He has missed 11 games due to suspension for on-field misconduct.

He has missed 0 games due to injury.

He has missed 7 games for off-field indiscretion.

            ---

For Morley, there was a total of 156 games that he could have played for us.

He missed 0 games due to State Of Origin selection (obviously).

He missed 25 games for on-field misconduct.

He missed 18 games due to injury.

He missed ZERO games for off-field indiscretions.

It seems I haven't been succinct enough in my first post because most of you have pointed out that Morley didn't miss games for misbehaving OFF the field - I KNOW THAT FFS. I was merely pointing out that he spent chunks of time on the sidelines during a season, for whatever reason, just like Myles yet he was forgiven this for the "mongrel" dimension he brought to the Roosters when ON the field. Is Myles to be similarly forgiven for his ON field indiscretions that lead to suspensions given he brings a similar dimension to Morley? That is what I was getting at in my original post. Far out, brussel sprout.

I don't have a huge issue with his on field suspensions LR, although I'd rather he at least incurred them playing tough for us rather than Qld. But what usually happens is he gets suspended whilst playing for Qld and the Roosters are the ones that suffer.

He steps up another gear for Qld, gets fired up and a suspension follows.

There is a huge difference between being suspended for on field issues and suspended for off field issues. Most supporters will cop tolerate on field suspensions, but not the repeated off field issues.

He has been a Rooster much longer than he was a Bulldog. Is your culture so innocuous that it has no effect.

You can't keep blaming the bulldogs, that's just soft.
