Same mate. I grew up in a household that all hated sport except for me. Wilko, Craig Hamilton and Warren Ryan in the late 90s brought the game to life for me. They were magic.

Ray Warren is horrible these days, largely because he is clearly losing his faculties which shows up most with his inability to see who has the ball. He honestly must be going blind and/or senile with all the **** ups he makes.

Hadley is the worst in terms of knowledge of or ability to analyse the game. Andrew Voss is a pretty terrible analyst but he at least makes up for it with a clear knowledge of the sport and by bringing a level of professionalism to his calls (going out of his way to learn the pronounciations of names, for example).

The rest who've been mentioned (Ikin, Barrett, Brandy et al) I think just go into the subjective bin IMO. All I think unquestionably know what they are talking about, and often their analysis proves correct. The only problem people may have with them is how they choose to deliver it.

Trent Barrett I think could make an excellent, Sterlo-like analyst if he is given enough time to develop his on-air personality. If you get past the monotone boredom of his voice he actually makes very good points and offers up genuine insight on the game

Worst is easily Ray "rabbits" warren....apart from him not knowing the players the years of him looking at 15000 easts crowd as small with few supporters... then praising a "good crowd" of 12500 at the suburban grounds is embarrassing.

Only commentator worth praising is sterlo..who is a brilliant and unbiased communicator about the game.

Most of the comms just talk without thought to keep up the noise...as that is all it often is.

I get the impression Ray Warren only watches one or two games every round -- the ones he commentates on. So I don't think he really has much of a clue. And he hates Easts, that much is obvious.

Warren Smith, well, I hate the screaming type commentators, and he's one of them. Perfectly suited to Fox where everything is screamed from the rooftops, including the wretched screaming music they so favour. Also hates Easts with a passion.

Ben Ikin, I am warming to. Gives me the shits sometimes with overuse of buzzwords like "star power" and "GF" instead of grand final. But all in all, I think he is fairly astute and does understand the game.

Gus, I love. Astute, funny and passionate.

In the old days, John O'Reilly on ABC TV was my favourite.

Warren Boland on abc Saturday arvos was good but I would love to hear Graeme Hughes call a game again. Apart from his obvious biased to the dogs, when you listen to his radio programme in the arvos they play snippets from the panthers raiders games, he sounds real passionate

Not a real fan of Belcher either he is so biased in games that involve the Raiders.

If you can't remember Alan Marks, he was a ABC tv commentator .... is the voice on the replay of the 74 Rooster v C'Bury grand final

Roy & HG are by far the best, especially during Origin. I loved when they went to Melbourne's Olympic Park to commentate during the Sydney Olympics..

I like all the older gentlemen on ABC Grandstand and I take my radio with me to the games to listen to them. Apart from Sterlo, the rest are rubbish and shouldn't be allowed near microphones. Time for me to leave now and go and watch the 20's..we are blessed with another sunny autumn day.

                  GO EASTS!

                          Worst - Laurie Bloody Daley

Best - Johnny "Bomber" Peard on ABC.

Worst Ray Warren, fancy having a 70 yr old being the voice of the official broadcaster of the NRL.
How bad is Matt Shirvington going, when he tries to analyze players he can barely get a coherent sentence going that is relevant to the actual player.

So Rabs was convinced SBW touched the ground with the ball, but was equally convinced Nathan Friend scored our first try.

                              He's a senile, gibbering fool.

Rabs and his Churchill thing did me. Can almost guarantee Gilbert was talking about Winston, not Clive.
