  • Shades of '75?

For the elder amongst us, a mate came up to me at the ANZAC game and said our team this year reminds him of 1975.

Now I know the '75 team was superb and I do not wish to be disrespectful but what he means is the fact they can score from anywhere with any player in the team with this lethal attacking unit and hard nosed defense can keep teams to zero.

Is he right? Appreciate your thoughts.

    LOL
Was thinking this the other night.
Will be interesting to see, as the season unfolds.

The 75 team was brilliant in attack, but it was its defence that won it a lot of games. Looking back at the scorelines, for much of the year we were winning games narrowly by squeezing opponents to death. It was only in the latter part of the year that the big scores started to regularly come.

Correct...Jack put the shackles on them for most of the year as their attitude wasn't up to scratch after taking the title in '74.

Gee I honestly can't see comparisons between this side and the 75 team.
The only thing that I feel is comparable was the way the guys used to tail big Artie .......Fairfax, Mayes & co used to sniff around waiting for the Beetson offload.
I notice the guys in the current team now learning to follow SBW around and just run into the gap knowing there's a good chance the ball will pop out right into their arms.

Exactly... SBW threw that offload to Pearce that most players in the NRL would never dream of being able to intentionally pull off. We will see a lot more of it as the year progresses if he stays healthy. Can't wait.

The parallel would be with the '74 side IMO..

Manly were the dominant side coming of a Grand Final win, like Melbourne now,& we were a side who had just bought a superstar (Ronny Coote) & were going to improve as the year progressed..

Penrith, Eagles, Cowboys, Storm. We'll get a better idea over the next 4 weeks.

manly at brookvale and storem at home, brookie nolonger a fortress and melbourne no great threat! so yes theres a good chance we can get 4 points out of those games? the best part will be pitting ourselves against the best of the rest, i do fancy our chances in round 2 with the bunnies!

Having said that the 74 team had a 20 point win over Manly at Brookvale.
