  • O'Sullivan on Tomkins

English superstar Sam Tomkins has put Australian clubs on alert after making initial contact to discuss a switch to the NRL next season.

The Australian understands representatives acting for Tomkins – Super League’s reigning Man of Steel – have begun sounding out clubs with a view to joining the NRL’s English contingent in 2014.

Tomkins, who has been compared to Melbourne and Queensland custodian Billy Slater, is also in high demand from English rugby union, but it is understood his preference is to join fellow Brits James Graham, Gareth Widdop and Sam Burgess in Australia.

Sydney Roosters recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan has no doubt the 23-year-old would be a star in the NRL.

Asked whether the Roosters could make a play for Tomkins, O’Sullivan said: “There will be 16 clubs interested in him. Right now we wouldn’t be able to afford him.”

Here's hoping the English club is stupid enough to do a package deal and swap Tomkins for SKD and Mini

seen him playing against St Helens last week, would be great for the club, and they also have a winger Charnley, who is no slouch as well, he would be a good signinging as well, both well up too NRL standards.

this is an old story and im pretty sure I read somewhere last week that he is demanding a ridiculous amount of money and is more likely to go to union. however, if SKD keeps playing the way he does and mini retires as expected, there is a real chance we could have a crack for him

I think only Souths and Canterbury have the cap space for him.

Crowe is probably paying his mother and you'll find him and his brother out here over the next couple of years.

apparently sam burgess is on 250k only according to souths fans he was one of the worlds best second rowers and could have demanded at least 450k in pommie land but he came to souffs for 250k plus his three other brothers too
                what a joke

                  Yep that's fact.

According to immigration papers he was on $250k a year on his first deal, $150k for his first season. That's after his manager was shopping him around for $500k.

Also it's no coincidence that Souffs have signed plenty of players from England.

I haven't really watched tomkins play. I know that many of you are fans of the esl.

Based on what we already have in RTS, would it be worth it paying big dollars to get Tomkins to come down here and play in a much tougher comp than he's used to ?
                    Comment of the year:

Andrew Johns, Semi-Final vs North Queensland ,

"It's touched Lui's hand and travelled forward but that's not a knock on"

A couple of years ago yes, now with Roger, not worth the asking price unless we do some Storm like creative accounting. If he comes it will be to Souths,Dogs or Broncs, they have a bottomless pit when it comes to the cap
