  • FPN negotiations close to new deal

Saw this on the Lurker's site, I know FPN is loved & hated by chookpenners, I think his effort has been much better this year & we need to keep him, I wouldn't think he'd be on huge money & we need his experience & size, I'll just get my raincoat on to await the spray from all the haters!

    Rooster close to new deal
Damaging back-rower Frank-Paul Nuuausala has begun talks to extend his deal at the Roosters. A rugged forward who can bend the line, Nuuausala is a key man in the Roosters' pack and has started the season in strong form.

BTW I forget what his injury was from the Eels game, how many weeks is he out??

For me its no extension, he done this last contract time, played well till it was signed, and was shit from then on. We have enough good young blokes coming thru to look after now, we need his money and mini's to secure them , going forward, his best days are behind him now, so let him go home to the warriors, for his pension years.

no one ever doubted his talent. it is his consistency, maturity and attitude that I question. At full tilt, imo he is every bit as good as sam thaiday. His form in 2010 in our run into the finals was sublime. Problem is that he basically hasnt replicated it since. Hopefully the new coaching staff and some on field success will see him back to his best.

One year extensions from now until our younger guys like Evans, Martin, Napa, Langi etc make their debuts and cement a spot in fg.

FPN is not a smart footballer and too often gives away stupid penalties or makes a stupid decision. At lock he doesn't play long minutes or make surplus tackles or metres. Definitely not the leader of our pack.
                Comment of the year:

Andrew Johns, Semi-Final vs North Queensland ,

"It's touched Lui's hand and travelled forward but that's not a knock on"

                  I agree

I know he's been slightly better so far this season, but you can't keep them all

If they are looking to keep him, I'd be holding off on any offer until much later this season

I agree. I would give him a one year extension. I like what FPN offers when he is 'on' - good size, skill and agressive running. However signing him up long term could mean losing some of our younger guys who have the potential to offer similar things to FPN on a more consistent basis.

                          FPN

                          Farking Please No!!

This guy usually plays about 4 good games a year, and in the last 12 months has been consistently out played by a 20 year old kid with about 80 less first grade games (Cordner).

Nuuasala can run hard, offload and smash in defence when he wants to, but he doesn't seem to want to that often.

I wouldn't be bothered if we let him go. His lack of consistency is what drives me nuts.
In any case I would be waiting a bit longer into the season before extending his contract.

We've signed Guerra long term who has a chance to shine given FNP's injury. If the club is smart they'll wait to see how Aiden goes before tabling an offer to Frank. Even so, it'll have to minimal, he was improving before the injury.

                              Chook.
