That doesn't mean you don't buy quality when it's needed. All of our signings this year have been OUTSTANDING.
Correctamondo. Agree with everything for said.

I've always wanted a balanced squad, that means youth and experience. Develop youth like every club but quality signing were needed. Upgrade our hooker and we can win the comp next yr.

I suppose it depends on your idea of what constitutes a good player....if its a bunch of Tigers rejects than yes thats true. Souffs have Merritt, Everingham, Farrell, Champion, Sutton, Reynolds, Luke, McQueen, Peats, George Burgess who all debuted for them, so I would consider them an excellent example of what developing your own players can enable you to do. Canterbury are the ones a little outside the norm......excellent salary cap management to be able to continually sign name players. Although, T-rex looks like being a bust for them . Still the emergence of Reynolds, Barba, Jackson, Finucane, Klemmer and co will help them.

Obviously the best method is a mixture of developing your own and supplementing them by signing the occasional established star. Look at Melbourne, developed the big 3 and just throw a few players around them. If they weren't developing their own players at the same time there is no way they could keep their stars together. I think thats what O'Sullivan is trying to replicate with us. He's trying to give us that 'backbone' to keep us competitive year in year out.

Never seen someone who can get so lost in their own arguments.

Melbourne Signing or re-signing Slater or Smith is the same thing as far as this argument goes. Are you suggesting if Melbourne re-sign those two they are practicing their youth policy

Maybe the egg in the face is still blinding you after the Soward debate. You described him as crap and then he went on to win a premiership. At least you are consistent Roz, consistently wrong. But don't cry Roz, that is my opinion.
You mean the soward who is about to get cut by the dragons? You mean the soward who played 2 origin games and never again. That soward that you wanted ahead of pearce. The same pearce everyone is raving about and Daley has just thrown his support behind ahead of reynolds. The fact that soward threads stopped is evidence I won the debate. The princess that is now considered by many to be the most overrated player in the game behind anasta has been shown up for who he really is. All I can say is its lucky the important people at this club wouldnt have preferred soward to pearce. Maybe our attack would look a bit more like the dragons atm.

Your opposition to the youth policy was to favour the transit lounge approach that dug us into the hole we were in. It is POS and his development of our young talent over the last 5 odd years that has gotten us where we are today. You dont build a dynasty by signing over 30s. Your argument about slater and co is absurd to say the least. At what age did slater, cronk and smith start with the storm? Whats that - they debuted with the storm!? Bingo! Name a team apart from the storm that has been so consistently successful - manly. And what do these sides have in common, they build from within and only source players in key areas which they need. They focus on securing young talent and developing depth. Thats why they let go of Inglis but are still ok because they have the talent coming through to replace him.

I fail to see what you think is confused about my argument. Maybe dot points will help your thought process:
          - Youth policy = developing young team and not signing players that are old and past it
          - Youngest team in the comp, 4 players over 30, 6 players in 17 debuted elsewhere - tick

          Your argument:
          - Signing anyone and releasing reserve graders is abandoning the youth policy

It couldnt be clearer. Interesting that your proposition hasnt found one person that agrees with you yet

how many comps have those 2 won? Is that the same souths and cronulla that have over the past decade constantly tried to buy their way off the bottom of the table yet failed to do so time after time. It is only since their new young coaches who have evolved the culture and established depth that suddenly they have become competitive. Dont you remember cronulla paying 400+k for tupou or souths getting fletcher in a wheelchair to go with the rest of their 'genius' signings. And how consistent have they been at coming in the bottom 8 over the past decade!

I think the young players that we have brought through the last couple of years, will go on to provide a great backbone to the club for years to come.

JWH, Cordner, Friend, Pearce, RTS, Kennedy, Guerra, SKD, Maubs, FPN, Tupou are the foundations of that and we should start seeing some rewards of persevering with them over the last couple of years, even though they have been tough. The youth policy could of been done better if we had never let Ryles go and booted Anasta earlier, however that can't be changed now.

The next generation of stars are the ones who will benefit most from this culture - Moga, Napa, Evans, Liu.

I think it also helped with the new additions and how well they have integrated into the squad given that some were really late arrivals. All the boys seem close and play for one another. I have noted that in every interview, they all seem to bring up working for each other as the main area they concentrate on and it is pleasing to hear.

I think that the 'youth policy', although not executed perfectly, has set us up well for the future.
