the same offenders of previous years returned to their habits after 10 minutes same idiots drop balls - penaltie,s missed tacklers same blokes .
Lack of concentration and discipline
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe
sorry to those displeased with my observation, guess i had a fundamental misunderstanding of what these forums were about. But your correct its early days.
It's not about being displeased, it's more to do with frustration that you are prejudging the Coach before he has had a chance to show his ability. At least give him to round 10 before making any comment on his coaching style, I thought there were many more positives than negatives from Thursday and I personally think Trent will be another Maguire.
The play that set up the first try looked like it was effective in creating space out wide and behind the two runners, poor pass by Pearce but nonetheless that was a set play that looked 'complex' and effective. I think those flat balls to Mini just before the line are just told habits and not a product of Robbo's tutelage. Give it a few weeks and it will be decoy runners galore.
I would like to see Robbo make better use of our bench. I am not a fan of Arona, he has no impact. I would much prefer to see another prop on the bench in place of Arona. If FPN is going to do sfa at the start of games, then he can come off the bench. He needs to use Morts far better, he was wasted on Thursday night. Kennedy needs a rocket so that he can provide impact off the bench. SBW should not be defending in the middle racking up a high tackle count as it reduces his petrol for attack, and don't just use him as a battering ram, he needs to be terrorizing opposition halves.
The year 2013 marks the beginning of the Roosters next 'decade of excellence', and it will prove to be more successful than the last!
Seriously do people really think that attacking structure only means second man plays? Robinson has the boys playing to our strengths. Pearce is at his best when he runs to the line and feigns short/long and playing opposite. We made 2 line breaks in this fashion through Pearce passing to Aubusson. The second man play is more likely to be used on the left with Maloney used as the sweeper off a ball playing forward (eg Nuuausala or possibly SBW). Playing deep is a strength of Maloney's because his speed through the line often exploits the player whose gone in on the block runner. His short passing is competent but not as clever as Pearce's. Also, we must consider that most teams have the luxury of playing their fullback as their sweeper on both sides of the field. This role is beyond Mini. Both his speed and passing are inadequate for the role and Robinson is well aware of that. So for the most part he uses him as an inside option for either the sweeper or tight link forward. The one time i can recall we used Mini as a sweeper was on the right off Pearce behind Maubs and the pass he deliver to SKD was behind him. That play turned the match to a degree. As soon as RTS is moved to fullback he will be used on both sides in the sweeper role and will thrive there with his strength and footwork. It's a shame we're limited in this way but the only blame i would point at TR is that he will probably not make the call to move Mini til at least mid season, not that the attacking structures he's putting in place are wrong.

The same play was used for Cordner's first try against the Tigers.
The lock & second rower run side by side on the inside and outside shoulder of one specific defender and Pearce either has the option to hit short, cut out the first option or throw it out the back to Maloney who's playing in a traditional 5/8 role.
Pearce nailed it against the Tigers but you're right he fluffed it against the Rabbits, fortunately for us we got a lucky deflection.
Don't tell anyone though, they might actually have to start watching our games.
if Mini could catch they wouldnt be so bad ...he has to be tapped on the shoulder soon enough
I think this fact will be further highlighted this season with the signing of SBW. Sonny's a really underrated ball player and obviously well noted off-loader; he'll provide a lot of opportunities for anyone who continues to support him.
Already we saw in round 1 Mini dropped a pretty simple pass when SBW put him into a half gap that every other fullback in the comp would've taken with ease and some would have turned into points.
You wouldn't buy a Ferrari and then put Ford seat covers from your local Kmart inside it.
is anyone else concerned that the roosters attacking structure looks very similar to brian smiths ineffective style. No decoy runners, flat line outs, short flat suicide passes. It only induces errors because the ball receiver is under so much pressure. It appears we wasted out money on jennings because even i can tackle him when he recieves the ball at half speed. All the contenders in this competition use decoy runners and line out very deep. The rabbitts destroyed the roosters with the same style that everyone else uses. We are so shallow on the last tackle our kickers have no time to take a few steps and put in a decent kick. Roosters will finish with the wooden spoon and a new coach if they dont change their attacking style. The players are trying very hard but the tactics are rubbish.
All true.
However, Trent has only had one game in the comp proper to assess the team's attacking style, which of course is left over from Smith.
