It's only round one. Pearce and Maloney have only had two trials and one official game together.

The other thing is how long have Jennings and SBW been with us? The latter less than a month.

Expect a much better showing Saturday night. Don't underestimate Souths, as much as everyone hates them and likes to see them lose they don't have a lot of injuries, have strong forwards and a fair bit of strike power.

Premierships aren't won in March remember.

Flat line attack is fine if you are on a roll whilst being fast strong and mobile yet unfortunately we tried to play like the vermin and played right into their hands - outmuscled us completely and too mobile in the forwards - we would have been better spinning it wide with the 40%possession we had

Catalans used decoys and more complex set plays with Robbo. Not just flat lines.

Our attack was fine, we made numerous line breaks and blew quite a few chances.

More concerned with our ball control, middle third forwards & penalties conceded.

Most of the handling errors were a result of poor passes & decision making, not because we didn't play with any depth in attack.

The problem with our last tackle kicking was that generally they were kicked from well within our own half. I do not recall many kicks that found Greg Inglis on the full.

I can not understand why so many people on this website are overlooking the reason why we lost which was the errors, penalties and low completion rate. Our Roosters created chances and more line breaks with the limited territory and possession we had.

Exactly Aidan...we have some impatient little things here...you are supporting the right team...don't worry.

If I recall that in the Smith era, we used to play up to 65 to 70 mins in a game...last Thursday I think we only played around 20 mins and then retired for the week. Maybe it was a step backwards

Exactly my thoughts. As disappointed as I am with the result it's pretty clear what needs improvement and there isn't a great need to panic about lack of structure or anything after one match.

Say we drop the ball a lot less, give away fewer dumb penalties, spend most of the time camped in the opposition 20 and we still manage not to come up with any set plays or points, then it might be a cause for concern.

We were very dangerous at times, only to shoot ourselves in the foot!!!!!

As someone posted in another thread, once the heat was on we reverted to old ways.

Will take time to overcome that.

It appears we wasted out money on jennings because even i can tackle him when he recieves the ball at half speed. All the contenders in this competition use decoy runners and line out very deep. The rabbitts destroyed the roosters with the same style that everyone else uses. We are so shallow on the last tackle our kickers have no time to take a few steps and put in a decent kick. Roosters will finish with the wooden spoon and a new coach if they dont change their attacking style. The players are trying very hard but the tactics are rubbish.
Good first post. Don't ever be worried about these so called chookpen experts, you said what you thought and asked for a response. Isn't that what a forum is?

I had the same fears as you at the game however after sitting back I realise it was our first game and if the side is struggling then they will revert to bad habits. It's round 1 no need to worry yet...
