Very astute observation. Back in the 70's WE were the LEAST penalised team. The refs will continue to penalise us more than the others unless we make it obvious we are disciplined. The pendulum will swing back but only our discipline will do it.

If he has to do that playing with SKD inside him, what chance does he have of learning anything defensively.

Plenty. He will become a better player if he has to face a greater number of difficult situations under pressure. He'll learn to make the right decision and when.

If Mortimer was our hooker last night we lose by 40.

I would have liked to see Morts come on in the first half when Friend started to tire.
You don't really know if Morts would have cost us points.

It just seemed to be a waste having the utility and not using him. Has Morts ever really
              been given a decent opportunity?

It took 4 pages, but finally someone said the truth.

That's because he's not a wing.. Even Gus mentioned he was playing out of position last night. He should swap with Mini next week and we'll definitely see the best of him in Number 1

robbo needs to get some speed into the side thirteen. jake i like but his passing game is just so weak and whilst i admire him for his defence i think he is just a bit brain dead when he get the ball at dummy half.his passes to pearce are so slow putting pressure on him.we need better clearance from the ruck thirteen.we played into the vermins hands last nite by trying to take them on in the forwards.it was a tough nite with 40% possession and a a huge penalty count against us. we have the tlent but last nite just like last season i saw no speed in the forwards as too with our 9 and 7. i believe speed always beats a man.souffs have speed and strength. we will do alright as the season progresses yet some changes need to be made by at least round 5.our 7 and 9 combo hasnt worked for a number of seasons.

I liked the way FPN was used - i.e. in shorter bursts. It suited his game.

My concern was Kennedy. Our whole front row got owned, but when Kennedy was on we got smashed.
The writing was on the wall a long time ago when Sandow smashed Marty.....

-Arona & kennedy out, LOD and Cordner in
-Mortimer in earlier, Nothing against Jake he tries his backside off but Luke made him look average, he needs spell during games to freshen him up.

And give the ball to Jennings as much as we can, I'd give SKD another chance provided he gets a talking to this week but the clocks ticking, same as Marty.

I also thought Pearce played well considering possession, I don't care who you are when your down 8 -1 in the penalty count or whatever it was, I dont expect any half to dominate, Warren Ryan on ABC was praising him all night.

We played probably the competition favourites on Thursday (along with the storm) This week we're playing a very average team that got touched up by last years wooden spooners.

its not the players, its the structures the coach is asking them to play

I agree. Morts has value written all over him. He is direct in attack and has a smart head. He puts his body on the line ala friend but without the stupid penalties, his pass selection is bang on and he follows play and backs up extremely well. At least a 50 / 50 share at hooker each would get the most out of each player.

Friend does alot but not effectively enough for mine.

It's not the structures that is the problem it is the errors. Canberra were toweled by Penrith today much the same as we were for giving away too much ball.
