  • Picking through the stats

obviously stats are not the only way to judge a players performance, but I think there are certainly some key stats both positive and negative that can't be ignored.

    the positives

    JWH 108m and 33 tackles
    Moa 106m 22 tackles
SBW 28 tackles was surprised at his workrate considering how rusty he looked in the first half.
    Jennings 5 tackle busts

    the concerns

    Jennings/Guerra/Friend 2 penalties conceded each
FPN 5 hitups 38m, not enough involvement from a starting lock
Arona 5 hitups 36m, not enough go forward for a bench prop/lock
SKD only 4 runs for 22m and 3 errors (anasta like involement), numerous bad defensive reads

well good start by the props. would've been hard to get 100+ metres against a tough forward pack like souths.
fpn, kennedy and at times arona were simply too soft.
anyone still questioning why we bought LOD?

Good metres from the starting props. We really really missed Boyd and LOD

I thought SBW was great but he conceded 2 penalties as well.

How can FPN seriously only take 5 hitups? Pathetic. Anasta-like.

SKD was really poor. His chances are running out.

              maubs

              28 tackles
              77 mtrs
              2 line breaks
              4 tackle busts
              no missed tackles

              my eventual solution...

drop SKD to newtown and put SBW at centre

LOD and Cords to come back in and we find a decent prop to partner MOA and JWH if kennedy doesnt start pulling his weight

SBW would make a killing at ceneter but i prefer him in the forwards so he can bop up any where as in for his try etc.
Just make a deal with Tomkins now and flick skd
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe

                    straight swap would be good

These stats are pretty much useless unless you take into consideration the minutes played

                      for example

JWH played 52 minutes for 108m and 33 tackles averaging 2.07metres gained per minute played and 0.63 tackles per minute played

Moa played 55 minutes for 106m and 22 tackles averaging 1.92metres gained per minute played and 0.4 tackles per minute played

JWH excellent and Moa very good and both are rightfully receiving praise around here

but take a look at Kennedy's stats below and I think it is amazing that he is being called things like softcock by a fair few people

Played 31 minutes 71 metres and 19 tackles averaging 2.29metres per minute played and 0.61 tackles per minute played

Also not sure why you consider FPN's and Arona's workrate and metres gained a problem when they played 49 minutes and 25 minutes respectively yet didn't mention Guerra who played more time 55 minutes and only made 6 hitups for 33m, 14 tackles and 2 missed tackles?

Guerra was well down on his trial form but I still reckon he is the real deal at 2nd row for us. He will be great for us, no doubt.

No doubt he will star for us in many games this season but last night he was terrible even compared to the very average games FPN and Arona had.

LOD would not have made a difference last night, he looks like he will need a few games to get match fit. I would blood Evans or Napia, if George Burgess can looked good in NRL, either one of these two will fit the bill, we have nothing to lose.

Why then have I seen so many bagging his game???
