  • SBW tackling techniques

I have been watching SBW tackle for a while now, I can tell you many of his tackles are done with such high force that it looks like a shoulder charge cause the opposition player just bounces down to floor, but it is not.

Here is an example , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lu1KtRqo_Ns

I have a feeling the refs are going to stuff up on this a lot.

of course it was not, but i just have a feeling NRL refs are going to want to enter a **** measure contest & call out any high force tackle as a shoulder charge & we just happen to have one of the most explosive athletes on earth.

The irony would be that Canavan would be partly to blame !

Unfortunately that is a shoulder charge, unless you wrap your arms around the player it will be deemed as a shoulder charge. Quite ridiculous really, SBW will have to use his shoulder while wrapping his arms around Burgess's head.

Just what we need - a new rule that requires a team of human motion experts to determine if it has been infringed...

as long as the right arm was 'attempting' to wrap around the player, it shouldn't be deemed a shoulder charge.
i have a bit more faith in Daniel Anderson getting the interpretation right as compared to Bill.

Problem for SBW is his height, any attempted shoulder/tackle will be upper body which may come under scrutiny, he will need to come in second defender on a few occasions to clean up a few opposition players, the old Craig Wing affect lol.

Watching that video almost made Union interesting - SBW is that good. Bring on round 1

Atleast Guerras hit in the foundation cup is legal,,
Sbw will still be able to hit with his chest just as long as his arms are apart

I predict a shit storm about this too.

It's a ready made Telegraph controversy.

They're going to be looking at his technique very closely.

As long as he attempts to wrap his arms around the player he is trying to smash, then it should be okay.

He's been tackling the same way in Yawnion for years where the shoulder charge is already outlawed. If you watch his technique, he raises his arm as if wrapping it around the player and smashes them with his shoulder and that's fine even under the new rules.

                            Chook.

I dont think it is the technic of the shoulder charge is different in terms of locking ur arm and leading with the shoulder
