  • Evans/JWH set to play in foundation cup

not sure what to make of this article on the Roosters website tonight, it seems to indicate that JWH and Evans will both line up on saturday night in the foundation cup, this is despite some pretty strong mail both are carrying injuries and were not likely to play.

    http://www.roosters.com.au/news-disp...ng-it-up/68519

Hard-hitting forward Frank-Paul Nu’uausala was one of the standouts in last night’s 20-4 win over Manly at Bluetongue Stadium, but like his coach believes the new-look Roosters still have plenty of work to do before the Round 1 blockbuster against rivals South Sydney.

FPN, as he’s known to many, spoke with Roosters.com.au following the win and told us he was happy with the win but knows there’s still a few things that need ironing out before the NRL season kicks off in just under three weeks time.

"It was good to test ourselves after a long pre-season of training and see whether we could transfer that to the game situation," he said.

Contuing on, "I reckon the boys did pretty well but we’ve still got a lot of things to work on, especially our ball control, but our defence was harder and that’s our main focus this year."

Nu’uausala started the match at lock, taking on the Sea Eagles midfield defence with big-men Marty Kennedy, Dylan Napa, Isaac Liu and new recruit Sam Moa, who impressed the Kiwi international in his first hit-out for the Red, White and Blue.

"It was good to get a hit out, especially with the news boys like Sammy Moa and the young boys Dylan Napa and Isaac Liu – who I reckon impressed the coaches tonight with the way they played," said Nu'uausala.

With the likes of his New Zealand team mate Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, former NYC star Kane Evans and high-profile off-season signing Sonny Bill Williams set to make their first appearance in next weekend’s Foundation Cup match against the Tigers at home, FPN knows the importance of a good showing against the Benji Marshall led side.

"It was good to get a win, but we need to back it up now. You can’t just get one win and drop off the next week."

"We’re happy with the way we played and the result, but we’ve still got plenty to work on before next week against the Tigers."

Another side with plenty of new faces in 2013, the joint-venture club won’t be a walk in the park next week at Allianz but there’s some quiet confidence following last night’s victory and the positivity around this Roosters group so far this season is proving to be confidence boosting for guys like Nu’uausala who have suffered a few tough years in Bondi.

"It’s never easy against them, but we’ll work on what we need to this week before the match and we’ll be ready come game day," he smiled.

I hope they all play and I don't care who, but as long as someone smashes Anasta!

    Chook.

The clubs official twitter account said that Evans is training, so he's obviously not too seriously injured.

I really hope that evans makes his debut this year, preferably in the earlier rounds. His numbers are freakish in the 20s, especially with metres gained. I think that he and Napa are our future, especially if the rumors about Tasi leaving are true.

This was the rehab team on the 15th Feb. They said Kane just returned to full training and would take it easy with him. I'm not sure what that means.

No one in particular, just a rumor that was floating around a few months ago. These things have a strange habit of coming true. For our case I hope that he stays. I don't think we have seen his entire potential yet and he has the capability of being a monster up front.

If worse comes to worse and he does leave, then we have plenty of talent wich can step up. Evans, Napa, Tago, and later on Mammary etc.

There were also rumours around the same time that JWH was headed back to Manly and Pearce to Dragons/Dogs/Parramatta.

                      Don't care much for rumours.

                      Some quotes as of 2nd January;

The end goal is to earn himself a new contract after his current one expires at the end of the 2013 season.

"I wouldn't want to be anywhere else," he said.

"My biggest concern at the moment is staying in the Roosters top 17 and getting a new contract.

"I don't want to go anywhere else. It's too good a club to leave.

                      "There's exciting times ahead."

Wow you're right.. they actually all clearly look bigger... So much for the 'Paleo' diet making everyone skinny!

Moga almost looks as big as Tasi.. One is a centre and the other is a very solid prop... If he doesn't lose a lot of pace/footwork then watch out..

Almost too big. Hopefully he'll trim down once he gets a few km's into those legs.

For a prop, Evans has a fairly unique physique. Only guys I can think off the top of my head who are that tall and "lean" looking are Tamou, Galloway and Tim Grant.

Moga weighs up near 110kgs so Im not surprised you think he looks massive. Considering his whole family play lower grades at the roosters as well now, the only reason tasi would leave is if we couldnt offer him anywhere near what others are/we cut him. I dont think either of these things will happen
