I wonder... is there a cap on how much money Channel 9 can make from using SBW's image and status as a sporting superstar? If not, why is there a cap on how much money SBW can make from it?

I like your way of thinking 66.

Big problem in this game IMO.

Seems most players can only make what the administrators deem a reasonable amount of cash even though it's their body and image being used. But there is no limit as to what the administrators are able to make off a players body or image.

      The FlogPen .

      You know it makes sense.

Interesting question 66. Maybe SBW is getting a slice of the pie through a third party deal?

        Chook.

I'm sure he is. But there will be some sort of cap placed on how much money this deal will allow him to make.

I know that there will be consequences, but I hope SBW is the man to finally call the NRL's bluff and mount a legal challenge to these artificial restrictions on his ability to profit from his abilities.

While I don't agree with the salary cap, it does stop the NRL from turning into the epl. I'd hate to have a comp of 16 teams but only 4 compete every year at the pointy end of the season.

Yes. It is a dilemma. But I find it objectionable in the extreme that Channel 9 and that evil gnome Murdoch can exploit these young men, yet restrict their capacity to profit from their talents while they can. It is even more objectionable when Murdoch's simian stooges (like the drunk) can denigrate these athletes when they try to earn an extra buck.

Do they really exploit them though. If it were not for 9 and the 'evil gnome' paying for the tv rights they wouldn't earn the money they do.
I'm all for them earning extra $$$, but if your paying what they do to cover the game they should be allowed to use who ever they want to promote it. It's sort of a scratch my back situation. If the player has the marketable ability to attract sponsors then using him to promote the game only benefits the players sponsors too.

The evil gnome only pays out because he can quadruple his investment from pay TV subscriptions (i.e. ordinary punters). My point is that SBW is painted as a bad guy because he tries to maximise his own income - or is actually restrained from doing so by the cap. Meanwhile, corrupt, phone-tapping, biased News Corp takes all that it can.

                      Love this ad.
While we are seeing SBW on the ad for the opening game, we are not seeing any Bunnies players and there toothless supporters.
But we must remember, the Roosters are not just about one man.
                      Bring on season 2013.
