Not really bizarre. The Roosters are earmarked to finish between 7th and 10th with most bookmakers which is middle of the field for both the spoon and Premiership. Therefore our odds will be similar for both.

My bet (although not overly courageous) is I have taken the Roosters to make the final 8 at even money. With the additions we have (Oldfield, Maloney, SBW, Jennings), the losses (Anasta, JP, Masoe - the latter I didn't mind), many players who have played 40 -80 games together, a new coach/es, an old coach/es who we no longer have to put up with and a fixture where we play outside of NSW twice for the season are my reasons.

With a roster gambled on like ours, I predict that we will either do really well or really crap. Time will tell.

It's a hard one to judge purely because you dont know if a club will have a terrible run of injuries.
My candidates are the Warriors or the Dragons. I think the GC will just miss out.

IMO Price or Cartright will be the 1st coach punted during the season & Manly will head south on the ladder & miss the 8. I dont rate Toovey or Johns as good coaches, discipline at Manly has & will continue to slip over the course of the year.

We seem to have a good compliment of players. It's our novice coach that relates to our underdog status in eyes of the Bookies, things will hopefully turn around as the season progresses.

That highlights the folly of signing someone like him for only one season. No propensity to build a team around him, or to plan for the next 2-3 years. Already people talking about imposing deadlines on him as to when he needs to commit for 2014 by. Quick, we need to win this season!!!!! As good a player as he is, signing him for only one season is the wrong move. From a planning and building perspective, what's the point? If he doesn't deliver it's a bad signing, and if he does go well then you have to deal with him leaving and try to replace him or restructure the side. Let him hop around swapping codes and doing what he wants, but clubs who plan longer term have no interest in marquee guys who'll only commit for one season. Are there even any other big name players in the NRL who have ever signed a one year deal at this stage of their careers? Sonny is for Sonny, and no-one else.
