Record tv deals and advertising deals tells me someone is liking the footy even if your not Dubai. Richie Faaso, Jaiman Lowe, Sisa Waqa are all fringe first graders... They won a competition last year. Jon Wright, Josh Jackson, Dale Finucane are all strong young talent who went within 80 mins of premiership, same for Kris Keating and Corey Payne who are fringe first graders.
Hypothetically Dubai..... Should we had been allowed to play in competition in 2010 competition based on our 2009 performance?
With these record TV deals you would have thought the NRL would be jumping at the chance to include another mediocre team, however I think you will find they decided to hold off on expansion.
Seems they agree with me.

Record tv deals as I mentioned it was in response to you saying the football is below par and not an appropriate standard-young guys not aiming up, too many fringe players etc etc. Advertising and tv deals brokered last year would suggest different to your opinion in other words. That Pete the Punter is enjoying the NRL product as a whole, from mismatches at NRL level down through the ranks where communication giants like Telstra get involved in kids footy. If I related the tv rights to needing to "jump" at expansion I would understand your comment.. But in the discussion and in reference to what I said your comment is irrelevant.
I actually agree with you on expansion, for the minute..... So we don't have another Gold Coast.... But there needs to be another team representing western Brisbane/Ipswich/Logan sooner rather than later. And we more than have the talent to maintain the 'NRL show' at the level it is.

Kurt I am the one who reported it originally in here, I have a good source at saints, and he had twigged me a few times over the years of pending Saints signatures, and he has been right everytime. Apparentyly saints have thrown ridiculous money at him, for a two year contract, possibly with a 3rd year option, and Pearce has given them the nod, he'll be there in 2014.

I'll remember to pull this out when he signs with the mighty chooks for another four in July.

If the goons had already got there man why would they go and buy two young halves aswell. Drinkwater is a very talented footy player IMO. Money plays a big factor in decision making I know that but it's only 1 part. If I'm a halfback in the NRL and a couple of clubs are chasing me I'm going to the one with the most talent around me. What you miss out in money terms is a small shortfall for playing in a competitive team and maybe even a premiership team too

Would also make the Broncos do a bit more development in SEQ instead of doing SFA, then claiming every player North of the Yatala Pie Shop as a local junior they have "developed"
Also, there are enough real footy fans in the greater Brisbane area (particularly the Logan/ Ipswich/ Western corridor) to make it work in terms of bums on seats....

Its due to poor officiating and rule interpretation by referees and their coaches, and secondly the focus of modern day coaches on the wrestle.

Our discussion was in relation to there being enough talet for an additional team. Whilst we have 4 or 5 teams at the top of their games, the bottom 4 or 5 are generally hopeless.
I don't see the Panthers or Parramatta on 9's Friday night coverage too often. It's because their product is rubbish.
I am certain depth of talent is a consideration when deciding on expansion, of course not the only consideration.
Look at the Super Rugby, they included the Rebels and the general quality of Australian teams has suffered significantly.
On the topic of including another team in QLD, by all means, just get rid of a Sydney based team.

The position of super rugby franchises is much more a reflection of Australian rugby as a whole in my opinion, especially their talent pool and the product they have. Our talent group/pool is 1000 times theirs. Hence they want to poach our players all the time. Even our mediocre ones-Saffy and Vuna.
