Because Mini is still a better option for the opening round at this stage than a 2nd year rookie who has never played FB in FG.

Ray RTS will be exposed by the smart coaches at FB in FG, he needs another year IMO away from FG to play in a spine position 1,6 or 7 regularly, learning the craft of reading the game & making the right decision with the ball at the right time & he also needs to learn how to defend better & get stronger. He is only 19 my son is 20 & you can see they are not fully developed men at that age, he will get his chance in FG, no doubt.

Ray I would love to have a another guy play at FB if they could offer more than Mini but the facts are we dont have anyone who offers more to the young squad from behind the play than Mini.

I said yesterday I believe Mini is held in the highest regards at the Roosters. He is the face of the Roosters at the moment, if you asked any 10 year old or under kid who follows the Roosters to name there favourite Rooster player Mini's name would come up 7 times out of 10.
People like Nick are very loyal to certain Roosters players not because of what they are doing now but for what they have done for the club over the years. If any of us suffered the spine injuries Mini has there is NO WAY we would be playing NRL, people like Nick who have seen the whole story with Mini dont believe he is finished they think how incredibly couragous he is to continue to put his body on the line & spill blood, sweat & tears for our champion club.

Mini's loyalty to the Roosters his FG football experience his good character his approachability & his communication skills are what the Roosters are looking for & getting from him.

Mini did his trade on the wing and had a RL background, RTS needs to serve his apprenticeship first and how better to serve under than Mini. I rember this guys killing himself for us last year, a true leader in my opion and should get a captains swan song next year for his services. It will be his last year and we need all the experience we can get in outside backs with our current situation.

Sports teams, sometimes reputation counts nothing, it's what you offer right here right now.
Stop looking back, we all know what happen if we keep on looking back, just focus on what's in front.

Mini has more experience than the rest of our current outside backs combinded, Trent will want to see him lead the back line as much as he can next year. Agreed he is past his best, but he will be invalueable for us is his last season.

It's sad to see a great player like Mini play on too long..

This year was embarrassing for him..I'm going to hate seeing what he is like another year older..

The guy has been one of my favourite Roosters..I hope he doesn't change that by being selfish..

It's blatantly obvious that Sheck should be fullback from Round 1..I hope Mini see it as well..

Bloody good post, Mickey. This must be pretty close to the current thinking at the club.

For mine it depends on which Mini we get next season the ball runner or the attempted ball player, if he leaves to organisation of play to Pearce and Maloney and just concentates on his defence, diffusing bombs and support play he may suprise.

I think we will see the ball runner and support player.
With the added creativity from Maloney and SBW, mini won't have to try and take some of the work load that Anasta couldn't provide.
I'm with Mikey on this one, right now he is the best option. In saying that come mid year if RTS is playing well, I'd and if mini is struggling I hope Robbo can make the decision to go with the future.
Ill always hold mini in the highest regard as a player through both his playing ability and his efforts to come back after serious injury. He is a club great in my eyes

I'm just so happy that we are having this conversation about Mini and not Braiff. Tiger Fans will be having this discussion now or at the very least 3-4 weeks in to the season

I like this post. I don't understand the hate towards Mini on this forum.

                          I have to agree.

C'mon guys, we saw Diamond pass the FB batten on to Mini way back when in 2002 and with all due respect to the Moth, in the short time Luke was with us back then I'd have to say that he left an even bigger legacy behind - that guy was a legend - you can take that to the bank.

In relation to the original question - Yes, I believe Trent will make the call and provide the opportunity for an early transition out of FB for Mini, this will well an truly be sorted before the business end of the season.

We will know soon enough where the coach stands on mini when he announces the captain. If it's mini... he will last the season and we will all have to live with it.... our only hope would then be a season ending injury which I would not like to see regardless of how poor he is.

I really think that Luke Phillips ability has been over stated by some on here as the years have gone by. He was a very good footballer, who got every little ounce of ability out of his body. He was very brave and quite skilful, but to consider him a better player than Mini when both in their prime is just wrong. I think Phillips himself would be embarrassed about some of the comments on here regarding his 'legendary' status.
