  • teams pros and cons

    hi all
bored. so lets talk footy. im sure the mods will move this on in a day or so but if talk roosters in it it will stay.

so i was thinking, how about if each day for the next 16(first one up in the morn ) he or she picks a team randomly and we, as footy know it alls disect the team and weigh up the pros and cons of the team, the coaching ability and possible ranking at the end on 2013.

    so here we go.

lets start with the roosters(to keep this thread here not elseware..)

the pros will be a new fresh beginning. new coach new 5/8 a few old heads in the coaching areas.

    sbw malony,samoa and olfield.

please feel free to add to pros or cons.

i believe top 4 as our spot in 2013
    1911 1912 1913 1923 1935 1936 1937 1940 1945 1974 1975 2002 2013 2018 2019 2020

The pros for me would be to seriously look at becomming 1 of the top 3 teams defensively. They will make the 8 if they can do that.

No one can predict how Maloney & SBW will perform but we all know that they have shown in the past to be very good players on their day, the inclusion of those 2 alone gives the team a fresh better look on paper but the game is played on grass not paper so it's hard to predict.

Injury is my major concern for the Roosters but if the League Gods are with them bringing spirit to the club & everyone is properly fit & all feeding into Robinsons vision they could finish in the top 4 but for me I think they will finish around 8th which I would consider to be a good season.

Cons, I think they are 1 senior player short & I dont like the spine with Mini & Friend in it.

Cons.. is defence, cant defend at all... spark from the fullback and hooker is a neccesity which is lacking in our team...

Forwards too inconsistant!! No set plays...
This all might change with the new coach

      Pros..

Good 5/8 joining the ranks. Complements our halfback.

      New x factor in sbw....

New coach . New assistants etc (already mentioned before)

Getting rid of dead rubber.. in anasta and smith....

i see your point for injuries, but dont we have a stand by in every position

        1rts, or olfield.2
2 and 5 topou, henry, alofa alofa
3 and 4 moga, alofa, henry

I meant more along the lines of Pearce Maloney JWH & SBW. Yes there are others who could fill in for them but they are big names who people have big expectation of & I feel if those 4 remain fit the team should be competitive.

            Friendly is a Pro.

            BJ was almost a Con.

Not sure whether you were joking there STSAE but ironically i agree with the sentiments!

Jake Friend a big plus, BJ a drawback in my umble opinion.

I was taking the piss mate with the Pro-Hooker and Con-Vict things.

But I dig where you're coming from. I'm actually a Friendly fan and BJ fan for that matter.

Where I see us going better than many is FB. I reckon Mini may just make many of us eat our words next season. I hope that's the case at least. Either that or he will get injured early and we will go better without him. I'm getting splinters.

I know maaaaaaaaate even I reckon that one was a bit out there but stranger things have happened.

You know me when I get that feeling, you can usually stick your house on the opposite.

Look we've discussed it and we need experience which Mini provides. And his biggest problems arise with his over involvement. Hopefully with that in check next season, actual options for playmakers, Mini can catch bombs and play the decoy.

Now where's my Turk, cluck cluck.

A big Pro is our youth, nothing generates enthusiasm better then youth. And if Robbo can use that enthusiasm to build on the skills and create a good team environment, the youth can become long term success.

A Con is our youth. As we've seen they can go quickly off the rails if not lead well. Here's hoping that vaccum will be filled wisely.

A massive pro is the direction the club is heading. From Robbo, Hellier, BC, Fitzy and JT appointments, I believe the club is setting itself up long term, something it hasn't done in living memory.

A pro is the bad press we're getting from The Hackville Chior. Anytime they focus on us negatively you know we're doing something right.

A pro is our cheerleaders. Some real lookers this year.

A con is this farking offseason is dragging on like a tax audit.

                        Chook.

Best post of the day. At the start of this season tbh, I thought that if our youth would play half decently then we would be a chance because our older guys would definitely consistently put in. It turned out to be the other way around. This season guys like cordner, RTS, JWH, have put the older guys like Anasta and Mini to shame.
                          Comment of the year:

Andrew Johns, Semi-Final vs North Queensland ,

"It's touched Lui's hand and travelled forward but that's not a knock on"

Pro I think that our EXPERIENCED youth is a very big pro. One thing having youth for all the aforementioned reasons, but when they come with experience like some of our young guys it's even better. I am talking JWH, Tasi, Pearce, BJ, Cordner... All our 22/23/24 age players who have massive amount of experience. We're about to see 80% of our squad in the prime of their careers.

SBW is a massive Pro already. As are the rest of the signings, including off field. Paul Green I think is going to add a hell of a lot with Taylor and Robbo.

Masoe and FPN being off contract. Both of them have a lot of work to do and a lot to prove to pick up healthy contracts here or elsewhere.

Rep Ommisions - Led by JWH, (who was quoted at being very disappointed about his test ommision) I think a few who missed out on rep duties or who came close (BJ) will be spurred on by rep incentives.

                              Defense is key

the coach won the accolades in France when he taught those bumbling dolts to tackle

players dont tackle if they are stale with the coach as we've seen the past seasons....this we must overcome

all other areas are potentially strong & we have 17 men to play next year rather than 16 plus Braith

if the coach inpires we will get cocky......top 6
