  • Prenter Makes Big Call

RUGBY LEAGUE WEEK'S founding editor Geoff Prenter is a great judge of player and he says Sonny Bill Williams is the best he has ever seen. "I'm talking Raper, Fulton, Langlands, Lewis - you name it - I have not seen a player like him and I don't know when we will see one better,'' Prenter said. ''He can destroy a team in defence and attack and there are not many who can do that. Plus he's a drawcard like you can't believe. I'm not sure the NRL realise what they have on their hands. Round one will be a sell-out against Souths for the Roosters and I've been told they are looking at a million-dollar gate when the Roosters play the Warriors in New Zealand

I would just llike to add that I totally agree. This is the greatest thing to happen to the Roosters since a bloke called Brad Fittler joined us.

I'm just going to say it - If you are not so excited that Sonny Bill is coming that you have a raging hard-on then you are ever a woman or as dumb as dogshit.

I suppose on him staying would be contingent on whether he gets what he wants as in being properly compensated and possibly the inclusion of Cooper into the squad, personally i feel that if a club has to give into too many concessions it opens up a very big can of worms as far as the rest of the players are concerned where would it end.

cooper wont be a loss in our squad? a very handed talented player with the x factor, as well no nrl clubs or players will know how to handle him on the field?

Sbw is good but a loooong way from the best player I have ever seen. However if the Chooks win the gf this year then I will be happy to reassess.

My recollection of Pinky Prenter was that he was prone to the exageration. In his days of radio commentating and on Ron Casey's World of Sport he would regularly come out with 'x' is the greatest player ever or that was the greatest try of all time or best tackle he's ever seen.
Once you start regularly saying those things, they do lose their impact !

I don't now about him being the best who ever played, but i know $BW is a true genetic freak..

His physique allows him to do things other players couldn't contemplate..He causes genuine panic in opposition defences..

I'm bloody glad he's going to be playing for us,not against us..

It ends with sbw. he may not be the greatest player of all time, but he is the most marketable and most talked about for the right or wrong reasons.

Since dave beckem joined the american soccer league, they have added 7 teams and built many new stadiums and doubled attendences.

Sbw will not have that sort of impact but he has already created enough of a buzz in the off season, let alone when the season starts.

Others couldn't care less about that, but are concerned about devoting so much money to signing a guy for one season who appears to have no loyalty to anyone but himself and whose desire to even play the code has been called into question. For long time Roosters fans, his signing comes straight out of the transit lounge handbook. Others are concerned about how his signing will effect the culture at the club - a culture that is hopefully moving away from those dark days. We want guys who want to be here, and want to build a career here. What effect will he have on the younger, impressionable players? Positive or negative? How do you go about building a team/squad by having your highest priced on a one year deal? What about the effect of his wanker manager? And for all the adulation that surrounds his footballing ability, how will he go back in the pressure cooker of the NRL after wandering around in the centres in Rugby Union for the last hew years? These are all valid considerations

You oversimplify things big time by imagining what he did to the bulldogs is the only thing that concerns Roosters fans re his signing.

Me, I remember seeing his debut against Parramatta on that Friday night way back when and thinking "who the hell is this guy". In terms of his league career since that night, I think I've missed watching maybe 2 or 3 games that he's played in. It's understating things to say he was a pleasure to watch.

I'm excited about the prospect of him being here, and hope desperately he can contribute what he contributed at the Bulldogs. I have to admit though, I'd have been a lot more excited had he come here back in 2004, or at least before he ventured into dealing with Nasser, Union, and now boxing. I think there's a real possibility that he won't contribute anything like what we hope he will

God I hope I'm wrong though
