Well, I recall you saying early on, actually very early on, that coach Smith wouldn't work out and as far as I'm concerned you were proven correct. It would be a welcome improvement to see the Roosters finish the season inside the eight, taking into consideration the deficiencies in some areas of the playing roster.

I always said on the old Wall that if Brian Smith was allowed to see out his full 4 year contract, I'd eat Sam Thaiday's boots. There is a lesson in there for all clubs not to sign coaches to long contracts. Look at Mr Sheens and how an esteemed career gets degraded over time to a battle over contracts and money.

Was there ever a time when you were in fear of having to keep your word about those boots?
Did Fred68's prognostications bolster your confidence?
I agree with the four year term being overly long and wonder whether it was a case of beggars can't be choosers, with Easts in the former role, thus not being able to get Smith without that four year stipulation, much as the boxing and Japanese rugby with SBW.

I would have been happy to be proven wrong. I don't like this business of sacking coaches before their contracts are up. And unlike Fred, I never deathrode Brian Smith and will always be grateful to him for getting my team to a grand final after a spoon year. Some of my favourite players like SKD won international awards and had their contracts upgraded during his tenure and this also made me happy. I think 3 years is a long enough contract to offer a coach.

Barring a shocking run of injuries, me thinks top 4. Dogs and vermin bubbles have burst.
not sure about that toots.
while des is at the dogs, theyll remain a strong team
as long as souffs have a good forward pack, the reynolds will continue to do well and as will souff
if robinson is as good as everyone is saying he is, then the roosters have the roster to make the finals.
the knights will be the big improvers next year, whilst the sharks will be the biggest slumps.

I think they will be fine it's Manly that I can see self imploding next year & not making the 8. They have an ageing side with 3 or 4 of those players having ego & discipline problems & a coach that doesn't have the skill to resolve it.
Read in the paper that the Roosters are 3rd favourite to win the GF with the impending signing of SBW.
It didn't say that. It said that we were the 3rd most backed team to win the grand final. All that means is that people have been taking the long-odds for us to win the grand final. We are still around 25 to 1.

I can't see us winning the comp next year. I can just see us making the 8 and probably going out first week.
That would be a good building year with the new coach. Hopefully with better defensive patterns and a couple of special set pieces that come off a treat in our oppositions 20.
If we can keep the nucleus of the side, we should really challenge for a top four spot in 2014.
I would rather build nicely with Robbo, with good improvement next year and then again in 2014, rather than the over-achievment we experienced in 2010. That gave us all a false hope for 2011 and I think too many people thought they were better than they actually are. Carney thought he could handle the booze again and look what happened. Nate thought he could crap all over everyone, and look what happened.
Gradual improvement would be better, for mine.
