The whole saga is getting annoying. Why hasn't he signed yet? He's saying now that he won't sign until his stint in Japan is over. And the NRL won't look at the issue of whether or not his contract will be registered until there is actually a contract presented to them. Leaving it so late could mean that, if for whatever reason his deal was not ratified by the NRL, there'd be no available players to spend the $$ on. Same deal if he decides not to honor the handshake. We'd be left hanging.
I want him here, but it'll be far from the end of the world if he's not. You can do a lot in terms of players with $800K, but the closer the season gets, the less that applies. I wonder if other clubs would put themselves into such a precarious position by letting him call every single shot, and just sitting around waiting until he's ready?

The Roosters are doing the right thing by not signing the bloke to anything until he gets through yawnion and boxing unscathed. I don't want the bloke at our club at all, but if he is to be here, he needs to be fully fit and ready to fire on all cylinders.
It doesn't take long to register a contract with the NRL. It's done in a few days during those mid season transfers.
So long as the Roosters ensure that any contract hasn't got the pawprint of that dodgy farkwit Nassar on it it shouldn't be an issue for the NRL to register it, so long as the Roosters can prove they have the necessary cap space available and the contract was negotiated with either an accredited agent or direct by Scummy Bill.
Personally I reckon he's just another of Nick's high profile dud disasters in the making. But hey, that's part and parcel of the experience of being a Chooks supporter.

If a club doesn't use all it's salary cap in a season, can that unused money be bought across to the next season, so a club might actually have more than the, say, $5M salary cap to spend in a season if they have extra from the year before? I know it wouldn't happen often, but is it in fact allowed under the NRL rules?

sure but the point I'm making is when you're talking about signing the most expensive guy in the entire comp, waiting around until the 11th hour to find out if he is going to sign or not puts us in that position - it will be too late to do anything if he pulls out. Plans need to be made in advance, so that if he does decide to go and play on the US PGA Tour or god knows where, there is time to do something else with the money

It would certainly be to our benefit if it did and the Scummy Bill deal never eventuated. We'd be in the money big time for 2014.
