  • Trent Robinson's effect on halfbacks?

He seems to know a lot about establishing halfbacks. He came forward and said he wants Pearce as a long-term rooster. Why? Because he knows he can make him shine. Remember the useless hack Scott Dureau? Well, he's now a superstar in Catalans. Yeah it's only super league but this guy is now a genius. He's the intercept king and has a deadly kicking game. Seems to have gotten a lot of improvements in his vision.

What can Trent make of Pearce in 2013?

Because he knows can Pearce can execute a game plan having worked with him throughout 2010, it's not about turning him into a Thurston or Marshall it's about playing with a traditional halfback and good on him. Derau is very much in the same mold although not in the same class.

You're misguided if you think Robinson is going to turn Pearce into the creative ball player we need, there's no need to put that pressure on either of them as it's not the plan.

Robbo said in the "Ice Bath" interview I paraphrased in the other thread that Pearce is at his best when he plays a simple game, and that was what he would get him to do.

I think Pearce will definately look better under Robbo, and I also think Maloney will benefit from having a more traditional half. While Johnson is amazing on his day, he is also unpredictible and drifts in & out of games. maloney will appreciate more consistency from his half and more structure on the attack.

            Agree...

Maloney will thrive with all that structure...unleash our weapons!!!!!

Did you watch Dureau's effort against Wigan?Im not sure his game is that improved, maybe he is playing at a level which suits him.I think Taylor will be calling the shots for Pearce next year.Robbo will be trying to rebuild the defence that Elliott has totally ruined.

2 things Pearce needs to focus on

                  1) His short kicking game, which is almost non-existent

                  2) Playing straighter

If robbo had been given the same roster as this season he would struggle to finish anywhere but last.

                      This season we had :

                      a halfback who isn't a halfback,

                      a hooker who isn't a hooker,

a fullback who isn't a first grader anymore,

and a 5/8th who would struggle for a spot in reggies. And yet at the start of the season many had hope of winning a premiership.

It's enough to drive this man mad......

Yep, just like this year Matt Wright, Jeff Robson and John Morris led the sharks into the top 8, even though they finished 2nd last the year before, with the same hack of a coach.

Cronulla finished 13th in 2011 and neither Matt Wright or Jeff Robson were playing in the spine then.

                            In fact in 2011 Cronulla's starting spine for the majority of the year was;

                            1. Gardner
                            6. Graham
                            7. Kelly/Townsend
                            9. Morris

In 2012 its been for the majority of the year

                            1. Wright
                            6. Carney
                            7. Robson
                            9. De Gois

I know you've only been here a short time but it's become quickly apparent to me that you talk a lot of shit.

Don't know about his effect on halfbacks but I didn't like what I saw the other night.

We can't take much from one game, especially when they got smashed but I didn't like the structure.

Looked like some of the rubbish we have played. Halves standing too wide and deep, pushing the ball side to side behind the advantage line with a lack of lead runners.

I hope he understands what works over in that league won't work over here. The defence is much tougher in the NRL.

We should be working on two things the whole off season wrestling/ruck defence and structure in attack.

I'm not writing the guy off but with a rookie you never know what could happen.
