  • Robinson Interview on ABC's "Ice Bath"

Robbo was interviewed by Debbie Spillane & Daniel Anderson on the ABC radio show "The Ice Bath" about 6:00 this evening. He was asked what he was going to do to fix the Roosters. His reply was very very impressive for mine.

His first words were that he wanted to work on the culture of the place. He said it was important that they have pride in the jersey, and that he would have to work hard with all of them, not just on the training paddock to instill the right culture and ethics in the team. He said Fitzy, who will be full time this year, will be invaluable in helping with this.

He also said that they would have to work hard on their defensive patterns. He felt we have enough fire power in attack, but the defence needed work. The players would have to work harder. He said "they have asked for that", and that's what will happen.

He also said that he had spoken to JT, and that they shared similar ideas about their attack. He said he was confident JT could get their attack working.

When asked what one person he thought had to improve, he shied away from a direct response. He actually said "your looking at Michell Pearce", then said he loved the way Pearce plays, and that he wants to be at the club for a long time with Mitchell. He went on to say a number of players had up & down seasons (he mentioned FPN & MAubs specifically), and he had to work with them to gain consistency.

It was a very enlightening interview, and he impressed me greatly. He basically identified everything I think needs addressing, and he obviously loves the place. He said he loved playing htere, and then coaching there in 2010.

No revelations about SBW. He was asked of coarse, but said nothing has been settled yet. He said if SBW does come, that is a bonus, and while him coming after Japan is not ideal, he said SBW is by all accounts a quality person and the ultimate professional, and that anyone would want him in their team.

Good times are coming my friends.

Proof we may have backed the wrong horse. If Daniel Anderson can see that Pearce is no good then why can't anyone working at the Roosters?

Nice summary mate & thanks for enlighting those of us that missed it.
I'm really hoping Trent & JT can work together & achieve for the good of the club without egos getting in the way. JT's time will come again i'm sure, sometime in the near future.

I may've been hugely critical of Pearce this past year, but even i recognise that Smith's style and tactics are not suitable to Pearce's desire for structured play. He does have the right attributes in his game (his short/long passing game especially) to be good as evidenced by his high linebreak assists/try assists, but he needs something a little more solid to work with other than "ad lib" footy

Then I will give him a chance to prove me wrong.

I don't think that the club, this time around , would've got a coach unless it was in the interest of the senior players present at the club. They definitely would have had a say in the matter. Although I don't believe 99% of what the telecrap say, there was definitely tension in the camp and surrounding the players, with regards to the coach. Most of the players are happy for Robbo to be appointed at the club, and this can only be a good thing.

How long this honeymoon lasts depends on how long the team keeps winning.

Surely you don't think that even if TR thought Pearce was rubbish, that he would come out and publically say as much about one of his key players for next year ?

I'm normally a JJJ man BR, but I do like the sports coverage on the ABC AM.

As there were no Sunday games to discuss, they were doing a review of the teams that finished in the bottom 6. I missed a lot of it as I was in & out of the car, but when Robbo came on I sat and listened to all of it.

He said a bit more that I haven't decribed. I've just paraphrased, really, to give the gist. I'm hoping they put the interview up on their website, but it hasn't appeared yet. If they do I'll post it here.

No, of course not, he's not Brian Smith.

It's not Mr. Robinson that's my problem, it's Pearce.

Happy 40th Anniversary by the way.

Many people seem to think that robbo has been given a strong platform to start on, but apart from a few up and coming youngsters in a inexperienced roster, he pretty much needs to start from scratch. The defensive tactics and attackig options are garbage this season. The leadership group needs to be decided and many players in key positions need to be assessed. I hope that JT can get in his ear about starting RTS at FB and moga on the wing. Mini will have to play somewhere so I suggest the wing, where he can do the least damage to our side.

As an organizer he is crap. I don't know whether it's because of the coach/s or the fact he has been playing with anasta in the halves. One thing that's for sure is that we need robbo to get the most out of him. Des hasler made Matt Orford into a dally M winning premiership captaining halfback. If robbo can do one of those things for pearce, then we're in business.

He had Bellamy as coach for three games and was more useless than a useless thing.
