The Newcastle Knights will today announce coach Brian Smith will leave the club, effective immediately.

The Knights have called a media conference for today where they will confirm Rick Stone as the new head coach for the rest of 2009 and the next two seasons.

At least he looks keen to get his teeth into his new gig lol.

He doesn't have to come near the Club and tread on Freddie's toes. He can watch every game tape of our FG, Newtown and U 20s. He can start to plan our off-season training program. He can get to know PO'S and get some knowledge of next years playing staff. There are plenty of things for him to do if he wants a head start for next season.

I agree with the guy above me... Freddie's not gonna want him around the club... let the captain go down with his ship (don't need some new guy coming in at the end of the season with 3 games to go and saying "no no no!!! change this!!! change that!!!")

Hopefully Smith's doing a lot of ground work and will have a BIG off-season plan for these boys once the season ends. And I mean BIG!!! Knock them all into shape and teach them a new game plan... kick the $hit out them in the off-season, they haven't earned a big holiday where they can go off sipping Martini's for a few months.

Overachieved because of the coach for 1/2 the year their slide started well before he signed with us. I doubt they will win again this year. Then again we wont either.
