I'd gather the legal ramifications alone would be a minefield???

I'm sure Benji tried a similar off season cash grab that was stopped by the NRL a few seasons ago.

That was never an issue when the Wests Tigers signed Lote Tuqiri whilst he was playing Rugby in the UK.

SBW is a win win situation. When he signs the NRL will show more FTA coverage of the Chooks, revenue will go up etc.

I too was told that after the June 30 cut off date, the NRL wont register a new contract until Nov 1st or after.
Clubs can sign players to hold their intent beforehand, but the player must be a free agent for the NRL to register it.

When you know nothing say nothing, it saves embarassment.

Yes that's my understanding also spanner, you can sign players anytime you want with the intent to play basically, it's when you register that contract with the NRL.

I'd gather players signed from overseas etc who are announced it's not until they are officially released from their current commitments that their contracts will be registered.

That may be wrong though I'm not a legal person.

Who knows he may not even come and all this speculation would be wasted.

                      The FlogPen .

                      You know it makes sense.

St Cheat signed Mark Gaznier mid-season on 55k or something without his previous contract counting for anything.

That ultimately gave them a premiership, so I say SBW is fair game.
