  • Thank you Smith

While the club has made the right decision and I cant wait for our new coach to take this team to the next level, credit where credit is due. He did an amazing job in 2010 to even get us into the finals let alone the gf. He has also build along with POS a really talented crop of young players and this year he managed to remove the final pieces of deadwood from our squad (anasta & perrett). The success of this playing group going forward will always tie back to Smith and the way he has brought so many of them on and been stubbornly committed to us building a team for the future. The easy option this year would have been to buy a couple of high profile players so we might have gotten a bit closer to the 8 but he has made the long-term call and commitment to building this club so he should be commended for that.

Imo Smithy has achieved precisely what he was brought here to do - clean out the playing roster, rebuild the club with a young and vibrant squad and get the players off the back pages and back focused on footy (which bar pearce and the medias obsession with his long list of girls for this year, he has achieved)

It took three years but Smith got rid of the biggest chunk of rotten wood this club has ever had.

For that, I will love Brian Smith like I love Phil Gould until I die.

      well said roz.

i think smith will be like the guy of pulp fiction(the guy who cleans up the mess after samual l jackson blows the back seat passengers head off)
come in and cleans up the mess and plans for the future.

i dont know who exactly smith has hand picked to join our team , but its looking real fine.

im sure the next coach will stop mini running the inside ball of jake and pearce, and replace him with a second row/centre to do it instead.

Spot on Roz. For all the bagging Smith cops, he is the master of making tough calls on players. He has cleared the decks and for that we all should be thankful.

Smith let our two best players go in Myles and Carney. It's a shame he could not tame them rather than cut them.

Yes I like Smith and would wish him the best, as long as we don't suffer from that...however the for & against record for us is woeful so it was perhaps 1 year too long. I remember about 18 moths ago I suggested the possible replacement of Smith by Bellamy...I was put down faster than Rodney King at a LAPD policemans Ball. Too Funny!

                Completely agree.

Although his personality and tactics were not a good fit for the club

Smithy was the right man for the job at the time and he did the job he was appointed to do. It ended badly but I will always be a fan of Brian and wish him success wherever he ends up. But not against the Roosters.

                    Good post roz. Completely agree.

When he came to the club we were a basket case. There is a lot of potential in the club know. I reckon coaches would be lining up for the job. The culture has improved a lot (either that or we are managing the media a lot better), the playing group appears united, there are a lot of good youngsters coming through and SBW will be here next year.

The biggest problem Smith faced was making the GF beyond expectations in year 1 of his contract. It masked a few of the rooted problems the team had which did not become apparent until mid 2011..thats when he had to pull the trigger and start the real rebuilding process. Unfortuanetly...he wont be around to bare witness to his fruits. I dont know the internal macinations but it sounds like its the right decision at the right time.

the legacy that brian smith has left for our next coach is indeed a very exciting one, our next coach will no doubt be very much in the firing line to achieve both early on and spectacularly so! i hope he has brians number for some solace which im sure will be needed at times during the coming season, first job is a tap on the shoulkder for mini! er do you want to retire now or just play 3rd back up to roger and quade? gracie chow bello

Cleanout not finished yet but it will come. Bye bye to the remaining mentally weak wooden-spooners.

he was sacked because in the end he was a failure.
