  • On this day...

In 1997, the Roosters beat Norths in the first Semi Final. To this day, I have never seen the overtime period where we beat them 33-21.

It was pre-empted by Princess Diana's funeral.

Ha! Me neither. They cut to the news. I think there was some hastily edited wrap up.

      I couldn't believe we'd won.

We always had the wood on Norths.

        They were like our Tigers.

Come to think of it, we always had the wood on Wests too.

If only Norths were still in the comp. They'd cancel out the two matches we drop to Penrith every season.

I thought it was Princess Di's funeral that they cut to? Either way, I missed it as well and can remember being very peed off about it!

We played Souths at the SFS on the day Di died. There was a minute's silence. Then we absolutely flogged them.

Andrew Walker had a blinder from memory...single handedly dragged us back into game. We were unlucky in 1997. Had we beaten Manly in the Qualifying final I have no doubt we would have been too good for Newcastle. Still hate Sean Garlick for dropping the ball cold on the 4th tackle just as we were working into position to kick the match winning field goal. We had two of the best exponents of the field goal around in Freddie and Walkabout. Garlick got us to within 40m with 2 tackles to go and loses the fricking ball, Manly go up the other end and Field kicks the match winner!

Hey john is that the game where we were behind the whole match and it went to extra time? Lam killed them. I remember rushing home to watch the replay but ch 9 farked the whole thing up and missed the extra time. When the full time hooter went they simply flashed up that roosters won in o/t. Very ordinary.

I was in the members at the sfs watching a chooks game when it was mentioned over the p.a. that reports are coming through that princess Di has been killed in a car accident. One of those, " remember where u were at the time" moments.

We could abolish the Rorting Storm and have the Bears back.

Not sure if you are discussing about the actual day but Lady Di was killed on the 31/8. This thread is about 6/9.
