From now on I will refer to you by your proper title, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Slocombe! You got the 'great one' part right, but from now on you can refer to me as 'Admiral General Great One', thankyou very much Mrs Slocombe!! By the way it seems like your pussies haven't been played with for quite sometime by the sounds of it, a lot of neglect!!!The year 2013 marks the beginning of the Roosters next 'decade of excellence', and it will prove to be more successful than the last!
Here's looking at you, kid.

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Slocombe I don't believe most supporters agree that next year should be Smiffy's last at all!!!! More like most supporters (the one's who actually know a thing or two about rugby league!!) think that Smiffy should be replaced at the end of this year, and in fact quite a few believe he should have been sacked a month or two ago!!!Originally posted by novice chook View PostDavos, I think most supporters are agreed that next year should be Smith's last. His 4 year deal expires at the end of 2013 and I'd be surprised if it was extended. He'd certainly have to excel I reckon for it to happen - top 4 rather than top 8 to start with.
NC
If you say that you would be surprised if Smiffy's contract was extended, indicating that you see no more future for him with us, than why on earth if you see no future for him would you keep him on for next year??? There is no point in doing that!!! When you see no future there is no point in beating around the bush and wasting anymore time, you move on asap!!! Just like Manly did when they moved on Hasler after finding out they had no more future with him!!!
Out of curiousity, do you think it was wrong to get rid of Murray, Anderson and Fitler???The year 2013 marks the beginning of the Roosters next 'decade of excellence', and it will prove to be more successful than the last!

Friends,
We are all allegedly Eastern Suburbs supporters so please let us not tear our fellow fans to the bone.
A good team environment is quite similar to the human body system as everything must function correctly to achieve maximum results and every area has an effect on other areas. Brian "Smithy" Smith is part of the problem but not the cause of all of our dilemmas.

Very true. Unfortunately, these same idiots cannot see the pattern of replacement coaches having a great honeymoon season before the real problems show themselves again. They prefer to continually replace band-aids instead of curing the disease.Originally posted by Bansai Pipeline View Post'Sack the coach' is the first refuge of the idiot.

So Smith had his honeymoon season and since then we have done what?
Do you honestly think he and his staff are doing a good job?
The players are not performing I admit that, but he hasn't been able to turn it around. We seem to be fixated on SBW and Maloney coming in and everything will be fine. I hope it will but it doesn't change the fact that 90% of the squad has not shown any improvement in there game. Facts are facts, he is not doing a good job, it's time to look for someone else to steer the ship back in the right direction

The fans don't really have much choice in fixing all the problems. In fact they can't fix any of them. However if the coach is crap it doesn't mean we just stick with them.. Maybe part of the problem is we keep hiring crap coaches. Let's face it, the last 3 have not been particularly successful since leaving the Roosters.Originally posted by dice View PostVery true. But you are asking for another coach to be sacked, yet who are you offering as a replacement? So many knee jerk reactions over the years, and most supporters seem to have no learnt the lesson.Originally posted by Cockadoodledoo View PostThe fans don't really have much choice in fixing all the problems. Our biggest problem this year in my opinion has been Anastasia not Smith the guy has made stuff all meters all year, is a turnstile in defence and leaves most of the attack to be created by Pearce who on his own isn't too creative.
Secondly Friend and Mini have been liabilities for most of the season, Friend is just too slow out of dummy half and the options he takes are too obvious.
Mini when he tries to be a ball player from dummy or 1st received is joke he can't pass, whilst defending he's too slow at the grubber kick, not alert at 40/20's and caught out of position a fair bit.
Anasta, Pierce and Mini are Senior players and shouldn't have to be micromanaged, they should be part of the solution not the problem.

This year we were never going to do anything with Anasta at 5/8th and the slowest outside backs in the comp. I challenge anyone to come up with a slower backline than what we had going around for most of the year. The opposition simply compress their defence, we are too slow to run around them, and our forwards get smashed.Originally posted by Rooboy View PostSo Smith had his honeymoon season and since then we have done what?

Maloney will bring us what Carney brought us. Attracting defenders with his running game, and the ability to get the ball out wide quickly (assuming faster outside backs) which will force the opposition to spread their defence. With SBW in the mix, I will be very surprised if we aren't competitive next year regardless of the coach.
Regarding Smith. The players are supposed to be the toughest athletes playing the toughest sport in Australia. Yet some of them only perform when they feel like pampered princesses. If their minds aren't right they stop trying and look for excuses. "troublemaker" players get sacked (and then make the "best buy of the year" list), the coach gets sacked, and the cycle starts again with the players performing well during the honeymoon period.
Apart from problems mentioned with our backline, our problem is not the coach. It is the attitude of our senior players. Instead of leading by example and encouraging younger players, they carry on like princesses, bitching and moaning and fragmenting the team, turning on other players and the coach, playing out their contract renewals through the media, threatening to leave if the coach remains. They are a fn disgrace. I am all for a better coach but until we get some genuine leadership in the team we are at high risk of history repeating itself.

Dice, the players are not responding to Smith's coaching.
Why take the risk of damaging there careers beyond repair.
You said your all for a better coach right? So why persist with Smith if he is doing more harm then good?
I know what your saying about the lack of leadership from our senior players but IMO that comes back to Smith as coach. Something isn't working so do we clear out the whole roster or do we change the focal point with someone with new fresh ideas not someone who finds positives in 50 point losses?
You can't deny that the likes of Pearce,Friend,Aubosson,Tasi,Masoe,SKD have not really developed in Smiths reign at the club? That is the reason I think it's time to move on from him,his son and Elliott.
I can tell your not a dumb ass like some on here and respect your opinion, but I have mine aswell like a lot of other people do too. With Anasta leaving who really only plays good footy at contract time, and the arrival of a genuine superstar, I think we can make the eight next year, but that won't change my opinion on Smith, I just think he is not the right bloke for this club

Because that's what they are WELL paid to do, to win games not whine about the coach. They act like primadonna's in a team that's at the bottom of the ladder because of non performance, the coach didn't miss the tackles, drop the ball or give away the penalties the players did. The players must take the blame.Originally posted by Rooboy View PostDice, the players are not responding to Smith's coaching.

RB,
As I said, I am all for a better coach. I just don't believe it is as important or as urgent as others believe.
Players like Cordner and SBW will lead the way for us. Just need to make sure Mini pisses off quick, and those princesses that threatened to leave do leave. Lets give our next coach every chance with the players acting professionally and actually following instructions.
