  • Linnett > All our backs bar RTS

Currently watching the replay of the Cows vs Warriors game and I am shaking my head in disbelief that we let Linnett go. Its a known fact that some decision makers at the club have rocks in their heads with the calibre of players they let go, relative to the players we've signed. Compile a team of those who we've released over the last 5 odd years and you'd see a better side than the knuckle heads running around week in week out.

Massive clean out is needed. Badly.

What happened to Luke Towers, the few times I saw him go around he looked ok.

Wont happen. For that to occur Politis would have to shoulder a considerable amount of the blame given he has his fingers in most decisions. For that reason and that reason alone it wont happen - Nick is too self centred to accept he may have made mistakes. No clean outs, no changes just another generation of mediocrity.

Been great all year for us, quickly becoming one of my favourite players. Even picked up by the commentator saying how he has been one of the biggest improvers this year.

there must be a hidden agenda with the decision making..... polynesian bias perhaps? out with mitchell, in with seluini.... nah but really any ideas?

linnett is on low-mid 200s at the cows. the club (which I agree with) didnt think he was worth that sort of money yet in his career. we also chose to invest in moga and RTS instead as future prospects (which I also agree with). As good as it would have been to keep linnett, this is an inevitability of having a lot of young talent (like with blair). might I add that the addition of oldfield will go a long way to quenching our thirst for a linnett-esque player but for a fraction of the price - pace, athleticism and a genuine try scorer both in very similar playing and physical moulds. Oldfield is also good as he can play wing where as linnett is a genuine centre

Oldfield? LOL he isn't anywhere near the talent that Linnett is. He can't even nail down a position on the wing for Manly when Taufua is there and he too is dog average.

taufua is horrible - i cant understand why he is preferred atm. Comparing oldfield and linnett, you say linnett has more natural ability; oldfield made the jnr kangaroos side and was one of the comps leading try scorers in the 20s playing in a manly team that ran last. linnett was also good in the 20s playing a similar role to the one he does in first grade - consistent finisher. To say one has more talent than the other is too hard to say at this point. give oldfield a year or 2 more and then I think a more fair judgement can be made

while i dont disagree that we have let some decent players go, how exactly do you see us improving on this by having a cleanout?

We need to build a team that actually has a desire to pull on that jumper week in week out. Boyd will be our centre point, our Freddy and the soul of our team for the next 10+ years. Without a doubt, there are players there for the pay check, and have no passion for the club whatsoever. These are the players to be 'cleaned out'. Losing to the cellar dwellers should see players walking off disgusted, not with smiles on their faces. Change is needed.

Smithy has to go. No passion. No desire. He's there for his interests and his interests only. He will drain every last game he possibly can because he knows theres no chance in the world another club will pick him up. Surely Uncle Nick realises him and cuts him loose.

and the way to have players who want to play for the jersey is by a cleanout and chequebook strategy? I dont disagree with your assessment but I think you have your wires crossed in terms of a solution. we need to continue to sign smart and cut loose the deadwood. at the heart of it though we have the makings of a serious football team. the 20s have some of the best talent going around, RTS, moga, cordner, JWH, kennedy, friend, pearce, SKD - all of these guys in their age groups are at the top in their respective positions.

Oldfield played NYC in teams that finished 1st (2009) and 7th (2010) on the ladder.... Career tally of 23 tries in 34 games. How he made the Junior Aust team is beyond me but good on him for doing so.

Linnett played in NYC teams that finished 6th (2008) and 2nd (2009) on the ladder. Career tally of 33 tries in 53 games.

I fail to see where Oldfield was one of the top tryscorers in a bottom ranked NYC team. Maybe your mistaking him for Zac Santo for the Cowboys this year who is up there in the try scorers list playing in a team that is dog average without Grevsmuhl and Taumalolo in the forward pack this year. Funnily enough they have both played in the games against the dogs and warriors over the last 3 weeks and won both. Just goes to show how good those 2 guys are.
