However, NSW Rugby League chief executive Geoff Carr suggested there could still be hope for former Blues coach Phil Gould.
Gould effectively ruled himself out of contention when he told the NSWRL he had too much on his plate to consider the job.
However, he indicated that situation could change in coming months should the NSWRL be prepared to delay its decision.
Carr indicated that might happen, although the final decision would rest with the NSWRL board. "I have had some discussion with Gus (Gould) and I will be having more discussion with Gus," Carr told radio station 2SM. "It's not out of the question."
