Dont put ya faith in him
Everyone is for their pocket mate. Why did Dessie leave woManly???

Since leaving Penwiff he established himself as the best Origin coach in the game, till SmellMaFingers recent run, and he established this club as competitive again after the years of shit we all endured.

Gus officially left us at the end of 04. Is it any coincidence we have made the semis twice since then??? Considering the 10 or so years before, where he was somehow involved at the club, we were a regular top 4 side.

Personally I couldn't give a fark if he came back here for the cashola. At least if he did come back we would more than likely be very competitive again as a club.

    Just my opinion though.

You mean as competitive as Penrith currently are STSAE? Despite Gould's blowing his own trumpet as to the miracles he's performing out there, all I can see is a club that has lost or is losing its most influencial players and has a more fractured playing group than ours!

The dream team of Gould and Cleary is curently doing a good impression of our Olympic swimmers - all talk with little results.

You could say that Ivan is doing the same clean out job at the Riff Raff that Smith did at the Roosters, but at least we made the GF in our first year under Smith, whilst the Riff Raff are closer to the spoon than GF glory. We will see what happens next year when their new recruits arrive, but I'm not holding my breath for the Riff Raff to be a force next year either.

Maybe Matt Elliott's results at Penrith weren't as bad as some seem to think.

Gould has a fine record yet the punt rat loves the sound of his own voice and reading about himself yet if there is any chance of him re joining easts a change of public perception would be needed on Gould but that likely only happen if he shut up and was out of the spotlight - it could be terrific if he re joined Politis joinied but I have my doubts as he may have passed his use by date just like a lot of our management - its a generational issue for me should Gould return because currently a younger brigade is coming thru in management and coaching - Cleary, Hassler, Flannagan and Macguire. interesting that two names here in the new brigade were at Easts !

          Thats what I was thinking.

Gould also likes to leave things up in the air, he loves the attention.

I'm not saying Gus is perfect NC, far from it I'd guess, but the bloke has a proven track record of getting results. I guess from his past deeds I choose to cut him some slack with his current role and club.

He may be past a FT coaching role, I don't know.

Any coaching or player recruitment is a risk. I guess I'd personally rather go with someone like Gus who I believe is less of a risk for our club, considering he knows the club and it's politics pretty well from past experience.

Many of us believe Uncle Nick is part of our cultural problems. I would hazard a guess Gus has the kahunas and experience to stand up to that sorta perceived pressure from above.

It's all ifs and buts really. But IMO I'd have no problem if Gus came back here in some sort of role.

IMO what he's done with Luke Lewis I'd like to have seen done here in the past. This is a bloke who has already left once, signed with Souffs, then had a change of heart and gone back on his word, now mid contract has decided to walk from his junior club again cos things have become a bit tough for him. Reminds me of our club and the rumors surrounding mentally weak players.

Maybe, maybe not but the guy has a great footy brain. Maybe JT as coach and Gould as the coaching director.

I honestly don't get this coaching director shit.

Hire a coach and let the **** coach ffs. It will only turn out bad because a head coach is never going to be happy to take orders from an old has been.

Too many cooks in the kitchen and all that jazz.

The coaching director is there to guide the young inexperienced coach.

                        It worked for 02-04 mate.

I will admit it would have to be the right combo to work but I believe it could be done.

Most coaches have plenty of assistants, some high profile, many ex-first grade coaches. Probably not much of a variation to what is in use at clubs really.

Except that the assistants report to the coach. The coach usually reports to the coaching director.

I saw this in the press today, and I must admit, I thought "where there is smoke".

Given the amount of money that might be available to be thrown around at coaches after the new TV deal, or even "coaching directors"..... you'd have to ask yourself the following question:

Who would Nick Politis and the Roosters Board throw that sort of money at?

And who would be tempted by that sort of coin?

And which of those candidates would be a good fit in terms of improving/repairing the culture here?

This question might also be answered: "why did Nick let Parramatta get Ricky?"

I personally rate Stuart highly and STILL want to see him build this city again in the future... but...

Is the city already built on a future type of rock'n'roll in these corporation games/names?
