  • Joel Edwards for Lock?

I heard on the Taka thread that this guy is on the outer with the Knights... Here's just a clip of his 2011 highlights.

What do you guys think for Lock. I know we have PLENTY of people in the backrow position, but this guys reminds me of Cordner.. a strong, defensive back.

    why no 2012 highlites

about half his tackles would lead to reports if the attacker lays down after the tackle.

next year they will nail all shots near the shoulders and up.

    not bad for a rannga

      Ahahahahahaha

You're right though... Next year they are going to knuckle down.. and the he would probably be sent of 5 times a year because he "tackles too hard"

he is an excellent young player. I do however believe that bosden and arona are 2 players that offer very similar attributes from lock forward to edwards. Thats why id prefer tolman who has the engine but is a more genuine prop. I would rather us use JWH or Tasi as a backrower and have tolman as our workhorse up the middle from prop than have edwards play lock and JWH prop

I like JWH as a backrower. He provides more strike power when he is running off the back of some offloads. But as you said, we need an engine up the front.

I was wondering about this the other day and came to the conclusion that what might be worth a go is putting JWH onto the right edge inside SKD. I think that the main reason for SKDs decrease in effectiveness of late (aside from the team's form) is that opposition teams are putting more numbers on him/paying him more attention. If we put someone big, strong, destructive and powerful like JWH inside him running unders lines, that would create stacks of space for SKD and RTS on his outside. The issue with having the likes of maubs and even cordner play inside SKD is that both seem to play wide and get a bit in his way (particularly maubs). They both also dont attract enough interest individually. JWH on the other hand much like sims, taylor and burgess is very much well equipped to play backrow and would re-ignite SKD imo. He can hit a hole, would be extremely dangerous running wide at halfbacks and on the edges and has very underrated skills. Something like this could be dynamite:
            8. Tolman
            9. Friend
            10. Evans
            11. Guerra
            12. JWH
            13. Cordner

            14. Maubs
            15. Kennedy
            16. Tasi
            17. Leilua

ticks all boxes. The no-frills workhorse Mr Reliable up the middle in Tolman, Guerra running wide inside SBW, Cordner using his workrate and aggression in defence as well as his skills in attack to give us some variety up the middle and evans to play a tamou/kasiano type role busting tackles and offloading at will with JWH steamrolling opposition players and creating space for SKD and RTS and not to mention significantly strengthening our right edge defensively

The post above by roz makes a shed load of sense to me and makes me wonder why the idiots in charge of this once mighty club haven't tried JWH in the manner described.

As much as I think we need to tighten up our defence spending substantial money on another backrower would be ridiculous.

I remember him last year. Never seen a guy hit someone so sweetly so often. But not for me. We don't have room for more backrowers with not much in the way of workrate. He's a good player but not quite what we need.

He turned down a reported $300 000(I think that's what I saw in the dtg) a year at knights to test his value which for someone at his age I don't think we will get anywhere just yet and whilst he is good I don't think he is worth close to that.

Our forward pack is not the issue. Edwards is a poor mans Nigel Plum.

Kennedy (when fit and firing) and Hargreaves are our best props. Cordner and Guerra are our best backrowers. Tasi is our best impact man off the bench. Build around them.

Aubusson has come under fire for playing like a ghost - get involved or get out. Nuuausala, Takairangi and Masoe all have huge talent but are playing like walking pillows. Low workrates, soft hit-ups and ill-timed errors/penalties/offloads.

David Stagg might be a good option at lock for a couple of years

Not a bad idea... 2010 was when Maubs was playing beautifully hitting holes and dangerous know we have no one do do that we need someone on the edges

I would chase him for sure. He is a future origin player.Solid defender to tighten the middle of the ruck. Yeah we have got depth in the back row but we don't have someone like Edwards. We have ball runners in Cordner,Maubs,Taka,Arona and Guerra. This kid is in the Daniel Conn
Mould and he was huge for us when he was here
