ROOSTERS halfback Mitchell Pearce has accepted blame for the "embarrassing" party-boy image that has over-shadowed his on-field exploits.
Speaking for the first time since an outbreak of speculation over his future and fractured relationship with coach Brian Smith, Pearce was yesterday forthright about addressing his post-Origin blues and denied he would seek a release from the Roosters.
The 23-year-old has attracted plenty of attention this year, which has gone from welcome to vehemently unwanted over the past month.
Escapades with buxom celebrities made Pearce fodder for paparazzi and PR agents, but subsequent reports about his discontent at Bondi have proved less easy on the eye.
"Everyone is saying that I'm partying and going out with all these chicks, but you guys aren't at my house," he said. "I'm not proud of the perception. I don't think it's a good thing.
"I'm embarrassed by all of it. I'm sick of all the media. I'm sick of the papers.
"I brought it upon myself because I put myself in that position and now I've got to work my way out of it.
"I'm not happy with what has been going on. It has caused more harm than good."
Pearce and Smith had a private meeting last Tuesday to clear the air.
The NSW playmaker said he emerged from the discussions with a commitment to see out the final year of his current deal.
"I love the club," Pearce said. "There are no roses flying around the room because we're not winning.
"With all the perception out there, (meeting Smith) was something I needed to do."
