  • Pearce happy with Roosters and Smith

"Sydney Roosters star Mitchell Pearce has knocked back suggestions he wants to leave the NRL club, saying he's fed-up with constant media speculation surrounding his life.

Pearce was reportedly not even talking to coach Brian Smith as he tried to negotiate a move away from the Roosters but the halfback says those reports couldn't have been further from the truth.

The NSW State of Origin representative says he never asked the Roosters for a release and had held talks with Smith last week just to make sure all was right between the pair.

"We had a meeting last week and everything's sweet," Pearce told reporters on Monday.

"I love the club. There's not roses flying around the room because we're obviously not winning.

"Everyone in the club's lacking confidence at the moment, obviously. Watch the way we're playing. It's just a matter of facing it head-on."

Aside from on-field struggles which have left the Roosters facing a second straight season without NRL finals football, Pearce has also come in for criticism over his perceived playboy lifestyle.

Former NSW halfback and Canterbury assistant Brett Kimmorley said leaving the Roosters might be the best option for Pearce but he doesn't understand where the party-image is coming from.

"I'm definitely committed to football," Pearce said.

"Everyone's saying I'm partying and hanging out with these chicks but you guys aren't at my house.

"I'm not proud of the perception, never once have I come out and said I'm proud of it, I'm embarrassed by it all to be honest. I'm sick of all the media, sick of the papers."

Pearce also said he was not the man to succeed departing star Braith Anasta as the club's captain for next season, with fullback Anthony Minichiello his preferred choice.

"I'd be looking to a guy like Mini for sure," Pearce said.

"I'm probably not ready for that at the moment.""

      One of them is lying.

I give Pearce for coming out and "ending" the speculation.

If the stories we keep hearing are false, someone needs to reem the tellucrap jorno's.

Now he needs to man up on the field.

I'm glad Pearce is happy with the Roosters. Maybe because he's not a fan.

what was he doing kicking ahead when he was about to cross the line on Friday night?

Would have been one the great botched tries of all time had that fullback not missed it cold

So in the last couple of weeks we have had Friend, RTS, Mini, Anasta and now Pearce say positive things about their relationship with Smithy.

So is it the rest of them who are only communicating with Smithy via SMS?

Well "What's the Buzz" had James Hooper doing the column yesterday (Slothfield's on hols) & although it was still a controversial article in regard to Easts, it would never have been written by Slothfield (see bolded part), it's tone was basically quite positive in regard to Gus, Nick & Smith, although not so positive about Smith's future at the club, really quite remarkable that Slothfield didn't have some preventative measure in place to ensure nothing positive was ever written in his absence about his 3 nemeses! It is as plain as the nose on your face that Slothfield has been writing columns to destabilise Easts for years now & something should be done by the club against him, ffs why the hell is Johnny Ibs associated with the club if he can't take care of this sort of f@#ker!

PANTHERS general manager Phil Gould has been sounded out by Sydney Roosters board members to return to the club as coaching director.

A week after The Sunday Telegraph revealed Parramatta had made an $800,000-a-season play to lure Gould back to coaching, the Roosters have also thrown their hat in the ring.

With Gould's job to fix Penrith only half done, there appears little chance of the two-time premiership-winning coach entertaining the idea until 2014.

What the move does underline is that Brian Smith's days at the Tricolours appear numbered beyond the final year of his four-year contract next season. If Gould did return to Bondi Junction, what would it mean for the Panthers and coach Ivan Cleary?

Cleary would be tailor-made as the type of coach to get the Roosters into the top four on a regular basis and his name has also been mentioned as a potential head coach for 2014.

More immediately at Bondi Junction, Roosters coach Smith and star playmaker Mitchell Pearce smoked the peace pipe last Tuesday in the wake of revelations the NSW Origin halfback wanted out of the final year of his contract.

A major part of the problem had been Smith's lack of communication with Pearce and last Tuesday was the first time the pair had engaged in a frank one-on-one discussion for a long time.

Even though Pearce and Smith have called a truce for now, the Roosters coach remains under huge pressure after managing 33 wins from 71 games in three seasons at the helm for a 46.4 per cent success rate.

Roosters chairman Nick Politis is one of the most fiercely loyal powerbrokers in rugby league and is a supporter of the discipline that Smith has instilled at the club. But his patience can only last so long.

                      What discipline?

We have the 2nd most errors and are the most penalised, brilliant farken discipline right there.

We also don't look fit and fall to pieces late in each half every single week.

We are farken squishy and soft in the belly and the head.

That's what I mean about it being positive about Smith, only a Smith lover could say that about him this season!

Yes, was going to make a very similar point. I guessing that they mean discipline in terms of what happens during their off hours. Off as in not training or playing because they are certainly off while playing.
