The club has been telling us for the past 18 months about the rebuilding they are doing for the future. Whilst there have been games we have been in this year and patches of great footy, we have been continously undone by dumb individuals in our team, who continually make dumb decisions. How will they become better even with a different coach. The balance is wrong. Someone like BJ needs a really rock solid intelligent player inside him or outside him because he is dumb as a stump. I dont care about natural ability - give me Kane Linnett any day

Great post roz! Shame the ticket can't see this!Originally posted by roz View Postwe have a good squad. we are horribly coached. ive been reluctant to really give it to the coaches but tonight for me was the crowning glory. the titans this week and panthers last week were both horrible yet we still managed to lose both. our defence is shocking and as are our basic skills/structure. these things are purely coaching. thats why you see dumb options like the constant short-side raids being taken because the players have nothing and they need to hope that all or nothing plays such as this provide them with something. if smith was half a coach, with such a young talented squad he would be working hard on defence all year this year and on grinding and working hard. once we get that right we can worry about the attack. at the moment we have neither because we have a coach that on the one hand wants us to be entertaining yet wont instill any attacking structure and on the other hand, wont work on our defence. in short, we are a rabble as a result. i just hope that all our talent doesnt up and leave before we re-jig our coaching staff and get back on trackThe year 2013 marks the beginning of the Roosters next 'decade of excellence', and it will prove to be more successful than the last!

It's not about experience, it's about us not having any go to players. These are the players who can turn a match with a piece of brilliance or win a game on their own. For example:
Manly:
DCE
Lyon
B. Stewart
Foran
Watmough
Melbourne:
Smith
Cronk
Slater
Souths:
Burgess
Inglis
Reynolds
Luke
Bulldogs:
Barba
Pritchard
Reynolds
Morris
These are the players who win you games and premierships. If they aren't doing something brilliant, they are drawing a tonne of attention from the opposition. For us I can only think of SKD. We need SBW and Maloney at the minimum.
The other thing I will say is that we are short a grinding prop. Someone who can grind out 120m+ every game with a minimum of fuss, who can make 30 tackles a game and can play 60-70 minutes. Tolman and Graham come to mind, and we would do well to find one of our own.Last edited by Spanner in the works; 07-28-2012, 12:21 AM.

Good post Spanner but take a look at the bullscum. Most of their side were pure rubbish just last year while under Kevin Moore. Now look at them with Hasler coaching them. A good coach makes ALL the difference!!Originally posted by Spanner in the works View PostIt's not about experience, it's about us not having any go to players. No one steps up in our side and executes under pressure. We lack any serious threat in any playmaking position.
I'm sick of the lack of structure call. The first 1/2 tonight they showed plenty of structure and played well.
Then when the opposition go to players step up we capitulate. We lack any genuine threat under pressure. Then we panic and the pushed passes and dropped balls and penalties start to add up. Then they score. Then we repeat the process.
No leader, no one who takes the game by the balls and owns it.

This year has been a write off for a while now. I'm confident next year should be a lot better for a number of reasons. The whole have patience thing is building to next year. This year was never the one despite how optimistic we can be.
A fair few neutral fans are of the same opinion in regards to our side.
Coaching does need to be addressed though if we want to realise it completely.

That last line of what you said Geohood is the KEY! This year we were never going to win it but we really should have made the top 8. I am extremely confident of a very good year next year if we have someone like a JT, Trent Robinson or Bellamy coaching us!Originally posted by Geohood View PostThis year has been a write off for a while now. Only to a degree in my opinion. I don't think Reynolds would be anywhere near as effective if he didn't have Morris or Pritchard to draw on. Nor do I think DCE would be the player he is if he didn't have guys like Watmough, Foran and Stewart at his beck and call. We have a young squad. Young squads are fine and I am reminded of the Broncos of three or four years ago. The difference is, and it is a cardinal sin, is to have a young squad without star power. The Broncos had Lockyer, Thaiday, Hodges and co to take the pressure off. We have nothing. Don't get me wrong. I'm done with Smith. But I do think our really gifted players have only just started to emerge. In my mind these are the guys like Moga, Evans, RTS and Napa, as well as the "experienced" versions of these guys in Cordner and Tasi. They are our future. But what they really need is a superstar or two in our side to show what it takes to be a world-class footballer and to make them world-class footballers.Originally posted by The Rooster Oracle View PostGood post Spanner but take a look at the bullscum. Afew well dones.
Well done to kennardy for letting in two soft tries and not bending the line once.
Well done mini for that nice little shove for a penalty infront.
Well done jwh for some more clever penalties.
Well done brian for instilling so much discipline to the team.

if the roosters can add SBW and Maloney in 2013, whilst parting with Anasta and Perrett, then the 2012 roosters total player value is significantly less than the total salary cap. Politis statement said it all - in his own words, we haven't signed a big name player in four years.

We could've had anyone coaching us this year mate but the side without a single threat in attack was never going to make the 8 this year.Originally posted by The Rooster Oracle View PostThat last line of what you said Geohood is the KEY! I myself said 7-10. I was way too generous, more hope than anything.
We don't have anyone in our team who can win us a game mate.
We are Melba without Slater or Smiff. We have seen their record without those blokes.
We need strike on the field before we need to worry about a new coach IMO.
Hopefully $BW arrives cos Baloney is better than Bwaiff but IMO we need more than just that.
Look at all the top 8 sides, he'll every side except ours at least one freakish attacking player. We have a donut.
