Who knows how it will pan out, hopefully good.
I dont think the Chooks can win the comp next year but I believe if Cherry & Sammy stay fit we can make the top 4, yes I know you're saying well if we can make the top 4 then we can win the comp but I think even if we make the top 4 we still wont win the comp. Just my opinion. Hopefully someone brings this post up if we win the comp next year so I can eat humble pie.
On Hugo I think he will play as many games in the halves as what DCE or Sammy does. I know Im sounding negative here but I just think DCE or Sammy will get injured next year.

What makes you think they will get injured?

I reckon Hugo will be offered big bucks ($700k plus a year) and will jump ship at the end of next season especially with Toby Rodwell close to ready.

I wouldn't begrudge Salava if he decided to move on. Fark being the back up bridesmaid on peanuts when you've only got a small window to make your money and set yourself up for life.

            Perth Bears imo.

Pretty much the whole season I’ve been anti this move, however when the price of DCE was revealed to be $500k I found myself softening regarding the signing. We have a lot of control if it goes south. I’d rather not lose Savala but the terms of the deal make it a lot easier to retain him.

I hope DCE goes well. The last few weeks of 2025 he played his best footy all season. Still worried about his defence seeing as he hasn’t really been noted for it and he is 37 come 2026. He has come here to win a premiership and I hope he and the rest of the squad can deliver

I can't see us winning in 2026 and I reckon we could go backwards in 2027. If DCE takes up his option for another year he will probably be past it and even if he doesn't Hugo has said he is going to the open market and may be gone along with both our wingers in 2027 leaving Rodwell to step up without much or any NRL experience. We look like we are taking a double or nothing shot at winning in 2026. Even if all our young forwards keep improving, we won't do much without experienced halves. Walker just keeps doing the same trick shots but we need someone to guide us around the park. Hugo wont learn that in Cup or playing off the bench in NRL

If Hugoes, I don't think it's because he had to take a back seat to DCE for a year rather he may be taking note of the Rodwell writing on the wall. If Hugo wants to be a Rooster long term, then it won't be in the halves. So perhaps 2026 is the opportunity for him to move into the 13 jersey especially with Rads sidelined for the first 10 weeks. If Hugo is hellbent on being a 6/7, then he will likely come to the realisation that he may have to seek greener pastures and DCE's arrival is merely just accelerating this decision by a year !

I believe the option is a mutual agreement, so if we don’t want him to continue he won’t

Mike from Burwood says Rodwell is seen as our longterm partner to Walker and I believe Teddy's echoed the sentiment. We'll see I guess!

Hopefully he isn't the worst Manly signing since Fatty came to us to end his career.

I'm guttered about Hugo. So much upside. His boot, his defence, his combo with Sammy was gelling nicely.
DCE isn't Cronk. Robbo and Uncle Nick have fkd up with this one.

If they do, all is forgiven.
                            I agree.

Unfortunately if the club didn't want him exploring his options they would have locked him up by now.

                              This from the SMH..
Hugo Savala will test the open market following news Daly Cherry-Evans will join the Sydney Roosters next year.

Within hours of the Roosters confirming 36-year-old Cherry-Evans will join the club next season, with an option in his favour for 2027, Savala, the breakout halfback at Bondi this season, said he was prepared to explore his options.

Savala forged an exciting halves combination with Sam Walker, but he is not prepared to spend up to two years biding his time to get another shot at a starting spot.

“It wasn’t as if the news came as a big surprise,” Savala said on Friday. “I’ve had a chat to ‘Robbo’ [coach Trent Robinson] about it previously.

“I’m sure I can learn a lot from ‘DCE’, and I’m super keen to compete for a spot in the side next season.

“I came through the Roosters’ junior rep program, and I’d love to be a one-club player, but whether or not that happens now, I can’t be sure.”

Savala, 23, confirmed his management had begun the process of sourcing opportunities for 2027 and beyond, saying: “We will just see what happens. I’ve got a year to go at the Roosters.

“I guess I’ve got to consider all options from here, but my primary focus is to start the season well for the club and see where things take me.”
Savala has played 21 games for the Roosters, with one of his best assets being his booming right boot. While he can also play lock and even centre, Savala’s only hope of playing in the halves will be if Cherry-Evans or Walker are injured.

He looms as a good No.14 option off the bench, especially with Connor Watson tipped to start at lock while Victor Radley is on a 10-game club-imposed ban. Even then, it remains unclear if Radley’s punishment will include the three Tests he could not play for England in the Ashes, and possibly two Roosters trial games in February, which would essentially cut his ban in half.

The Perth Bears enter the competition in 2027, but Toby Sexton has already been linked to the franchise, and they may be in pursuit of a playmaker with more experience.

Another Roosters’ half, Sandon Smith, has already joined the Newcastle Knights on a four-year deal.

Skipper James Tedesco praised Savala late in the season for being able to block out the speculation about Cherry-Evans, saying: “He [Savala] is a local kid, really inquisitive about the game, watches a lot of footy, and I love that. I’m loving our combination on the field. He doesn’t overplay his hand; he gives me time and space. He’s been awesome.”

I'd been holding the same opinion all year until it actually got announced. Let's just wait and see how it starts to pan out..some are saying Hugo will be better at lock anyway whilst Victor is not playing. This could be the best thing for Hugo to keep him a Rooster. He can play more than one position. People are too quick to think the grass is greener on the other side and to automatically think leaving is the only option. I doubt very much if Nick will allow a local junior to go to some rival club if he can help it. I'll never forget his debut at Parramatta when they took a busload of 70 of his mates. Andrew Johns said his son was amongst them and they had called the club asking for tickets.."7 tickets?" "No, 70 tickets!"
