  • Daly Cherry-Evans signs with Sydney Roosters - Official

The Sydney Roosters are pleased to announce the signing of Daly Cherry-Evans for the 2026 NRL season.

A premiership-winning halfback and former Queensland Maroons captain, Cherry-Evans joins the Roosters following an illustrious career spanning 352 NRL games to date (Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, 2011-2025).

Roosters Head Coach, Trent Robinson, welcomed Cherry-Evans to the Club.

“Daly’s experience and understanding of the game will be a strong addition to our group and we’re excited to welcome him to the Roosters. I’m looking forward to working with him,” he added.

Cherry-Evans will officially join the Roosters later this month.

It will be very disappointing to see Hugo leave. I don’t know about this signing. Hoping for the best.

Agree, I'm not feeling the excitement.

I've learned not to question signings. I threatened to walk the whole length of Bronte Road in a Vermin jersey if SBW got us to a premiership and look how that turned out..

We are now the envy of every other club...

Good luck Chez mate, I just wish it had been maybe 5 years earlier.

Ive been thinking about this signing a lot (as has probably all rooster fans...) and it seems most people are more concerned that this signing will mean Hugo will leave / hamper progression etc. Less about DCE's benefits, which is understandable

Obviously no one knows, but i just think since Robbo has been on board, we have made the finals every year bar 1 - so i think the track record and success of signings to balance the 'now' with the 'future' has been excellent.

What that means for Hugo, who knows - my opinion is that i think long term he will benefit from being around a guy who is a proven top line player, will assist him - but who knows.

My opinion is its going to be a great signing for next year - and make us a better team. What that means for ensuing seasons - who knows, but the club has shown they are excellent at succession planning

                    Will be this be

A- a Bob Fulton signing ( we got two good playing years out of Bozo )
                    or
                    B- a Paul Vautin signing ( enough said )

My main concern out of this is the report in the Herald that there is a second year option in DCE's favour. I can stomach this deal for 1 year, but not 2.

With DCE coming into the team where exactly does he improve us?

Game Management? Sure but everything else I think Hugo was doing as well if not better. DCE looked tired this year.

                          Well, this officially sux.
I bet I'm not on my pat malone thinking that.
I was holding on to the faint hope he'd up and retire.

Short goal like drop outs for one.

He was tired this year. Tired of playing in a rubbish side. He’ll be rejuvenated by the change.
