  • Keary to join coaching staff

    Fantastic news;

Roosters legend Luke Keary has rejected a coaching role with the Newcastle Knights to return to club he won two premierships for in 2026.

Channel 9 reported Keary rejected an offer to join former Roosters assistant Justin Holbrook’s rebuild at the Knights to return to the club he played 168 games for from 2017 to 2024.

“I’m going to go back to the Roosters and have a small role with them,” Keary told Channel 9 News. “I can’t wait. That is my home.”

“I want to do a little bit with the younger guys and pass a bit of knowledge on.”

Keary is also interested in exploring the corporate side of the Roosters business in the future.

“I’m really interested in the corporate side, too,” Keary said.

“I’ve obviously done a bit of university stuff, so I’m interested in the business and finance side of things.

2 club legends, family orientated, great role models away from the field, professional in their preparation and were popular with team mates. Quality people bring success

The best off season news. A champion in all senses and so glad Kez will be coming 'home'. As RR says our young guys could not have a better role model.

Makes the DCE mooted signing even more excess to requirements.

We need to win from game 1 in 2026...not get thrashed by 50.
We need two halves who can deliver that.
Obviously Trent believes Sam Walker and DCE are the answer.

I honestly don't know if this was said as jest or not, but he is actually killing it as an assistant at Hull KR - contracted until end of 2026

I love Luke. It’s great to have him back. I was shocked he was being linked to Newcastle. As he said in the press release ‘The Roosters are home’. Great news.

Surprised. He never struck me as the coaching type at all.

The great stuff Skidsy did on the field was all instinct, off the cuff. Not sure you can coach that.

Leave SKD for the 'off the ball' training perhaps.

God knows what tripe we'd dish up if he was running the catch & pass elements of training.

I thought something was brewing as I'm connected to Luke on LinkedIn as I worked with one of his school friends.

He posted this a few days ago:

"After 15 incredible years as a professional rugby league player, including my final season in France, this chapter of life has been an amazing journey for both myself and my family. The experiences on and off the field, the challenges faced, and the friendships formed along the way have made it truly unforgettable.

We’re now excited to be returning to Sydney and looking forward to the next chapter. Over the years, alongside my playing career, I’ve been fortunate to continue my education and gain experience across different industries, which has given me new perspectives and skills I’m eager to build on as I explore new opportunities.

I’m looking forward to connecting with people in sport, business, or anywhere in between to share insights, advice, or explore potential opportunities."

AKA fat lard@rse who drove a golf buggy into Keary's physio tent while drunk and somehow took offence that Keary didn't see the 'humour' in it.

Later spotted throwing phones at people.

Its another thing I give credit to Robbo for.
This is why I say Robbo is the Roosters because never before has a coach been able to surround himself with former Roosters players who love the club.
The Chooks never had a culture before where the coach was a Rooster through & through then has all ex players who have won comps on his staff. Its a fantasic Roosters culture that ex players identify themselves as Roosters men.
Mini, JWH, Keary, Cordner, Friend, Aubusson, Pearce, Brett Morris,
I think Toups also deserves to be looked after
