Cronulla fans were left livid as two crucial video referee calls came back to haunt the Sharks as the Sydney Roosters forced a 14-all NRL draw at Toyota Stadium on Monday night.

Todd Carney looked like returning to haunt the club that cut him loose last year as he dominated for the Sharks, but he was unable to edge his side ahead in extra time in the NRL's first draw of the season.

He missed a field goal in the dying seconds of regulation play before his two extra time attempts were part of a collective seven botched one-pointers in the golden point period - three of them from Roosters No.7 Mitchell Pearce including the best opportunity two minutes from the end.

Chasing their seventh straight win at Toyota Stadium, Sharks fans showed their displeasure with video referee Paul Simpkins after two contentious decisions went against the home side.

The Roosters never lost touch with the home side, but they were lucky to be so close when Joseph Leilua scored in the 57th minute to cut the deficit to 10-8 after it had appeared Boyd Cordner had taken out Wade Graham in the lead-up.

The decision would have only added to stand-in captain Graham's anger after he was denied what appeared a legitimate try just four minutes earlier when video referee Paul Simpkins deemed he bounced the ball in attempting to ground a Jeff Robson grubber.

Still, the Sharks looked like they were hanging on for a win until Pearce came up with the play to send the game to extra time, his pin-point bomb reeled in by Aiden Guerra to level scores in the 77th minute.

Facing the Roosters for the first time since they sacked him late last year for repeated off-field indiscretions, Carney showed his class in setting up both of his side's tries - while his goalkicking kept the Sharks in front until the final stages.

The draw could yet have further ramifications for the Roosters, with prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves twice placed on report - the second for a swinging arm on Jeff Robson that could cost him some weeks on the sideline.

            "What appeared a legitimate try"......LMFAO!!!!

The replay showed at least 12 inches of separation between hand and ball - a no brainer knock on.

And the obstruction???? After the Hodges try awarded the other night I thought the new rule was brought to everybody's attention, that decoy run had no impact on the scoring tonight.

And no mention of the Moga disallowed try or the 9 bogus penalties to our 2.

            LMFAO!!!

Warren Smith used to have a real throbbing hard-on against the roosters that, in recent years appeared to have de-tumesced. But judging by his commentary tonight, either he had some serious money on the sharks to win or he has barred up again big time.

Seriously, after looking at that side-on replay clearly showing Graham knocking on, that we could all see, and then saying it looked like a try from a different angle at normal speed, he needs to take a good hard look at himself. I had regained a fair measure of respect for him as a commentator in spite of his earlier hatred of our club, but he has lost it now.

LOL. On that note, I had a patient about 7 weeks ago who works as the editor of the online edition of the Daily Telegraph. We got chatting about league and I brought up Rothfield. I admitted I followed the roosters and remarked to her that Buzz seems to hate the roosters. She replied, and I quote, "yep, he sure does".

I know that is not big breaking news, but very funny to hear it directly right from the horse's mouth. She was really, really nice. But Buzz is just such a toxic, low down, nasty, abusive alcoholic loser.

And this from the SMH report:

"Most of the big calls went against the Roosters. In fact, all the penalties did for a time; the Sharks were given five, without conceding one, in the first half.
That said, the Roosters' fortune started to turn when they were running the other direction. In the second half, video referee Paul Simpkins denied Sharks forward Wade Graham a try, after replays showed a few millimetres of separation between his arm and the football after he chased Jeff Robson's kick. Roosters winger Joseph Leilua scored just four minutes later to take the Roosters back to within two points.
But the Roosters' ill-discipline cost them again; with just 16 minutes remaining, Waerea-Hargreaves was reported for a second time after a high tackle on Robson, and Carney was gifted two more points.

What is wrong with these journalists? "A few millimetres"? This is the kind of mental bias that makes people actually believe their own lies when they want to believe them. The "few millimetres' was more like 12 inches. A clear knock on. Paul Simpkins has always had a vicious hard-on against Easts. If there was any way of allowing that try without scrutiny he would have.

And the "head high" tackle by JWH was on a player diving trying to get a fast play the ball. Contact was made about 2 feet above the ground. Had it been a different player than JWH, playing for a club less hated by the media, we would have heard or read "He fell into that tackle, I don't think he'll have anything to worry about with the match review committee". But instead we have agenda-driven little nuffies pathetically trying to use their influence to get their rocks off and get a player they don't like, playing for a club they don't like, suspended. And the actual match review committee are gullible/biased enough to play right along.

P1 I don't see much wrong with that what you bolded.

I gather you were upset at the Roosters luck seemed to turn when we were running the other way??? I took that as being we had a better shake of luck in the 2nd 1/2 of the game, which we did we actually got 2 penalties.

They could've easily awarded Grahams try BOD, have on occasions against us this year. I took the article to agree it wasn't a try, clearly there was separation. IMO Mini showed little urgency to get there, they deserved a try for effort, or lack of, alone.

JWhs shot was always gonna be a penalty. It was mistimed and it looked spectacular. That said I'm glad he showed some raw aggression tonight, I don't care if he gets a holiday when he's trying to hurt someone, it's his job. The unfair penalty was the one against Mose for tackling around the legs too hard. And that dog Gibbs, what a lay down Sally.

I'll discipline cost us most weeks. We give away silly penalties, especially piggy back ones, and drop the pill at the worst possible times, usually after defending a few sets and just getting the ball back.

We cop it royally from Reffs, have done since Bwaiffs been at the club strangely. I will be seriously interested to see how many penalty counts we win next year to test my suspicions that it's Poolander that the Reffs hate, not the Coqq.

                              The FlogPen .

                              You know it makes sense.
